Spanish Court Tosses Terror Conviction
Spanish Court Tosses Terror Conviction
By Associated Press

July 24, 2006, 4:47 PM EDT

MADRID, Spain -- Spain's Supreme Court on Monday threw out a terrorism conviction against the only Spaniard to have been held at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, saying there was no evidence to back up charges he was a member of al-Qaida.

The court ordered the immediate release of Hamed Abderrahman Ahmed, who was convicted last year of belonging to a terrorist organization and sentenced to six years in prison.

"There is a total absence of prosecution evidence," the Supreme Court said.

Ahmed was captured in Afghanistan in late 2001 and held by Pakistani authorities for about four months before being transferred to Guantanamo. He said he had gone to Afghanistan to study at an Islamic school.

It is becoming impossible for people to move around the world. Thank goodness this man's country has some reasoning skills.

America America God shed his grace on Thee, God Bless America, Ooo...h say can you see by the dawns early light what so proudly we hail....blah blah blah...

3. Evidence? Evidence?!
We doan need no esteenkeen' evidence! George W. Bush has proclaimed Mr. Ahmed to be an enemy combatant, and that means Mr. Ahmed becomes an unperson. Doesn't Spain's Supreme Court know the new rules of the game? How would they like it if terrorists bombed a bunch of trains or something? Nobody understands terrorism like George W. and his pals, NOBODY!

7. I often think of Chaplain James Yee
the Army Captain of Guantanamo fame who was incarcerated for several months on trumped up charges of espionage. Why?, because he is a member of the Muslim faith, a man of God. Wonder how he is doing. I heard he is no longer military.

8. Flamingyouth just posted an article on James Yee yesterday.
He's living in Olympia, Washington, and was recently detained at the border trying to get home from Vancouver, and kept two hours for grilling purposes. He's still getting harrassed.

Here's the thread with the article:
