Northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 65, between mile markers 50 and 64, were shut down for a couple of hours Sunday due to a reported highway shooting.

Indiana State Police reported that one person was killed and another person suffered non life-threatening injuries following the sniper-style shootings.

Indiana State Police at Seymour received a 911 call of a shooting around 12:23 a.m.

As this initial investigation was under way, the Seymour City Police Department received a call from the Shell Gas Station, located just off I-65, reporting that another vehicle had been shot.

8. Oh, but this isn't a terrorist attack on American soil
Because the mighty George Dubya is fightin' the terrorists over there so we don't have to fight them over here. If there's a terrorist attack on American soil, like, you know, the DC sniper or the anthrax killer, then those must not be terrorist attacks.

13. Update: Local news confirmed a 3rd shooting and possibly a 4th!!
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 10:05 AM by Roland99
no word on add'l injuries but a semi truck and a car were shot.

Apparently, the other two shootings were in Delaware County, IN (Northeastern IN, quite a ways away from the original shootings)

I-65 now re-opened b/t mm 50 and 64.

Seymour is where the 1st shootings occurred.

Not known if the two shooting incidents (Seymour and Delaware County) were related.

18. Other shootings were along I-69 NE of Indy
http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=5185711

"Right now, we haven't made a determination whether it's one person or how many people are involved," Goodin said.

Police also were investigating two other shootings along Interstate 69 about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis. No one was hurt.

State police at Redkey received a report about 2:30 a.m. that a semitrailer was struck near Muncie. About an hour later, a shot struck a parked, unattended vehicle.

"At this time it is unknown whether the shootings in the Seymour and Redkey area are related," Goodin said.

within a mile radius of where my sister lives (Silver Spring, MD). It was scary shit to have your sister be a moving target for two months.

21. Worth noting the GOP in Indiana
at the request of the loony-tunes at the NRA just handed out lifetime gun permits to armed Hoosiers and passed a law letting anyone who "feels threatened" get away with murder.

23. Neither of which are in any way related to the topic of the thread
Indiana House Bill 1028 didn't materially change anything BTW. It only clarified that when one is attacked in one's home, car, etc. there is no duty to retreat. Just as has been the case in California and most other states for a long, long time.

http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2006/HE/HE1028.1.html - See the bold and strike-out type for what 1028 actually changed.

I wouldn't doubt it if the violent energy spilled over to here. Whether or not it is terrorist related, tensions are pretty high worldwide.

29. I am just wondering aloud...someone raised this "nutball"...
so is this nutball a product of crazies or did this person just snap and think that using other folks as target practice would be a grand idea?

It is sick all the way around...

30. The nutball will have to be captured alive before an answer is possible
Lots of things can cause people to lose their humanity, including but not limited to their upbringing, substance abuse, and organic brain disorders.

My family still lives there. Hope this person (or persons) caught soon.
