USN&WR: DeWine blunder adds fuel to controversial Sept. 11 ad (doctored)
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/060719/19dewinead.htm

The controversial video of the burning World Trade Center towers in a television campaign ad for Ohio Sen. Mike DeWine is doctored, U.S. News has learned. The television spot, which has been lambasted by critics as a political exploitation of the Sept. 11, attacks Democrat challenger Rep. Sherrod Brown for being weak on national security.

On the air in major Ohio markets since last Friday, the ad shows the towers, with the south building billowing smoke, which gradually drifts upward. In the video, the north tower, which was struck first on September 11, is undamaged.

"This particular image is impossible," says W. Gene Corley, a stuctural engineer who led FEMA's building performance study on the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks. Corley reviewed the ad atwww.brownvotes.com for U.S. News. "The north tower was hit first the south tower could not be burning without the North Tower burning." Corley also says, "the smoke is all wrong." The day of the attacks, the plumes of ash were drifting to the southeast. "The smoke on 9/11 was never in a halo like that," Corley says.

DeWine's office acknowledged the error. "The Senator was unaware that the image of the towers was a graphic representation and has instructed the campaign to replace the footage with a picture of the Twin Towers," his office said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

3. They are trying to milk 9/11 for all it's worth...
If the truth really comes out about 9/11 - it will be the end of the g.o.p.

4. So...
When are dems going to howl about him using 9/11 images in his ad? When are republicans announce, "I wouldn't have done it."

This is okay, but the DCCC ad wasn't.

6. How tasteless...
So the original footage of this horror was deemed unsuitable?

They wanted it to be MORE 'emotional' and MORE 'impacting'...

How shameful they would even consider it...

7. That's the part I really don't get. Why? Must be an over zealous
marketing type. Image and marketing is everything these days, especially for Repubs.

14. Here's why they "doctored" it
"The smoke on 9/11 was never in a halo like that,"

Just more mixing of God and the GOP. They needed to "halo" effect to show that 9/11 really was a gift from God, and the DeSlime is simply "angelic".

These are some sick bastards were dealing with here. We need to convince the mega-churches in Ohio that the "rapture" is coming on Nov 7th, 2006. That way enough of them will stay home to wax their pubes in preparation for the "bridegroom".

11. According to this, it's Mike DeWine who's weak on terrorism:
Voted NO on restricting business with entities linked to terrorism.
Vote to adopt an amendment that makes US businesses and their subsidiaries liable to prosecution for dealing with foreign businesses which have links to terrorism or whose parent country supports terrorism. Voting YES would:

* Empower the President under the Trading with the Enemy Act to prohibit US businesses and their subsidiaries from transacting with foreign businesses identified as having links to terrorism.
* Forbid US businesses and their subsidiaries from engaging in transactions with any foreign business whose parent country has been identified as a supporter of international terrorism.
* Require the President to publish a list of foreign businesses identified as having links to terrorism, and bans US ownership or control of foreign businesses engaged in transactions with such businesses.
* Call for US businesses to disclose in their annual reports any ownership stake of at least 10% in a foreign business that is itself engaging in transactions with a proscribed foreign business.

Reference: Stop Business with Terrorists Act of 2005; Bill S AMDT 1351 to S 1042 ; vote number 2005-203 on Jul 26, 2005

12. So, where's the outrage in Wingnuttia????
Why aren't the easily-outraged citizens of Wingnuttia up in arms at their senator using 9/11 imagery for political purposes?

Why aren't the Wingnuttians positively furious that not only did their senator use 9/11 imagery for political purposes, he thought he'd make the imagery even scarier by doctoring it up? 9/11 wasn't scary enough for Winguttians, I suppose.

Just another pissed-off Buckeye who can't wait until Dewine is gone,
Jennifer :-)
