Homeland Security clears cafeteria workers after puzzling 2-week hiatus

After nearly two weeks off the job, two cafeteria workers Downtown will be allowed this week to return to work.

The two women, who together have worked in food service at the U.S. Courthouse and in the William S. Moorhead Federal Building for 44 years, were removed from their positions on July 5 when the Department of Homeland Security declared them "unsuitable," after conducting background checks on them

Yesterday, through the help of a local congressman's office, both women found out what happened and were able to correct it.

For Ms. Miller, 52, of the North Side, the problem lay entirely in a glitch with Homeland Security.

For Ms. Broughton, 58, of Crafton Heights, the explanation wasn't that simple. Latter looks like a possible mistaken case of shoplifting. IMHO only their union's involvement a outrage after coverage by local news got these women back their jobs.

Cafeteria food is a slow death that rots your stomach from the inside out. Homeland Security had been investigating two women to find out whether they are worthy enough to sling hash in a US courthouse. The two women were cleared after two weeks.
