Lack of witnesses inhibiting prosecution of polygamists
notice that polygamists tend to be in RED states?

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Mohave County, Ariz. prosecutors are considering postponing or dismissing cases against eight residents of a polygamous community who are charged with sex offenses involving marriages to underage girls because they're having problems finding witnesses.

"So far, we haven't been able to serve the victims in either case," County Attorney Matt Smith said. "We've not had any luck serving people. They are running, they are hiding, they are changing houses, they are not answering the door."

Smith said Mohave County sheriff's deputies were able to serve only one of four subpoenas on potential witnesses during a search of homes in Colorado City, Ariz., on May 25.

Colorado City, along with Hildale, Utah, is home to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, whose followers practice plural marriage as a tenet of faith and believe it necessary to earn heavenly exaltation. The FLDS and other fundamentalist Mormons have their roots in the mainstream Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which abandoned polygamy in 1890 and now excommunicates those who embrace it.

1. Where are the detractors who fled to Phoenix?
The Arizona Republic did a series on them several months ago.

2. The cops don't sound very serious about this case.
These child rapists would be in prison by now if they were Muslims.

3. This is a very touchy political issue in Arizona-
There are many Mormons in the state and in the state legislature.

7. no they don't sound like they give a care at all, do they?
my feeling was that it's only young girls being exploited, they might have got off their arses if the children being forced into "marriage" were under-age boys

i say to them, stop making excuses abt how wiley the coyote is and just do your damn job

9. Law enforcement has been making excuses for them for decades now
It's sickening.

Like someone up thread said: if they were a Muslim cult, they would have taken care of business a long time ago. Or an African cult.

8. Barely 2 generations ago, an unmarried 16 yo would have been an old maid
Not that I'm advocating she be married off to a 39 yo, but it's interesting to see how cultural 'norms' have changed.

But hey, the only reason they want more than one bride is them damn homos stirring things up about traditional marriage. Until them activist judges in MA ruining marriage for everyone, none of these people ever thought about taking more than one wife. For all of history even. :sarcasm:
