Anti-Bush organisers hope for 10,000

A coalition calling itself "Bush Go Home" said Monday it hoped some 10,000 to 15,000 demonstrators will take to the streets of Vienna Wednesday to protest against the visit of U.S. President George W. Bush.

"The name George Bush, the name of the American president, has become a symbol for war crimes, for Abu Ghraib, for Guantanamo, for Jenin, said organizer Michael Proebsting, a member of the Austrian faction of the League for the Fifth International.

The coalition is made up of groups including the Communist Initiative, the Anti-Imperialist Coalition and representatives from Austria's Turkish, Syrian, Iraqi and Palestinian communities.

Proebsting said he hoped that between 10,000 and 15,000 people would participate in the march slated to begin late Wednesday afternoon, the day of the EU-U.S. summit hosted by Austria, which currently hosts the European Union's rotating presidency.

7. He and the band
had booked a whole floor at the Imperial hotel-the premiere hotel in Vienna. The bush people wanted him to give up his space for them-he said no way, I booked it first, go find another place.

10. Glad to hear it.
Perhaps the squanderer of our funds can find someplace less lavish to stay.

...The Rolling Stone splashed out £3,600 a night for the suite days before the US leader tried to book it.

Now Mick, 62, who has been a fierce critic of the Bush-led war in Iraq, is refusing to give it up...

11. Thanks for the link.
Mick Jagger can afford £3,600. The U.S. taxpayers are broke.

I'm glad someone refused to be displaced by the self-important Bush.

3. I applaud Vienna...
...for expecting 10-15,000 people protesting. I wish that we could get that high number of protesters when BushCo comes to American towns.

8. count me there in spirit but
it's probably ironic that his own 'home' (the US) doesn't even want him here.

12. I wouldn't be surprised if they got a lot more than that -- it's not too
far from other major European cities (at least, by US standards).

14. There isn't a country in the world where he'd be
warmly welcomed by the populice - including this one if he ever dared show his ugly mug in public. The entire Bush Crime Family is an embarrassment and a disgrace.
