The prosecution in Saddam Hussein's trial today demanded the death penalty for the former Iraqi dictator and two of his co-defendants as closing arguments in the eight-month trial began.
Saddam, his half-brother and former intelligence chief, Barzan Ibrahim, and Taha Yassin Ramadan, another former senior regime member, should all be executed, the chief prosecutor, Jaafar al-Moussawi, said.
...the trial - which began in October - has made slow progress, repeatedly being interrupted by outbursts from Saddam and his co-defendants and a series of defence boycotts.
It has also been hit by the killing of two defence lawyers and the resignation of the first chief judge in January.
