Mbeki honours June 16 heroes (1976 Soweto uprising)
Sat, 17 Jun 2006

<snip> "We remember the youth of 1976 because they left us a lesson: That it is possible for young people to stand up and confront the challenges facing them," Mbeki said. <snip>

"As we pay tribute to the 1976 youth, we acknowledge that their struggle was not in vain," said Shilowa, praising them for refusing to bow to apartheid, police brutality and the exploitation to which their parents were subjected. <snip>
