200,000 march against Bush in London
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/content_objectid=13645118_method=full_siteid=50143_headline=-200-000-MARCH-AGAINST-BUSH-IN-LONDON-name_page.html

A massive demonstration against George Bush drew up to 200,000 marchers on the streets of London today. Organisers of the march, ending in a rally at Trafalgar Square, said the number was a record for any weekday protest in Britain. With a huge police presence the Met reported no incidents of violence and the march passed off peacefully.

"This phenomenal response shows the depth of feeling of the British public towards this visit," said a spokesman for the Stop The War Coalition.

The march started near Euston Station and went past the House of Commons and Whitehall before finishing at Trafalgar Square. When the march passed Downing Street anti-war protesters booed and jeered at Bush and Blair inside number 10.

A huge papier mache statue of Bush was hauled down by protestors in Trafalgar Square in protest at the Iraq war.

18. Not to mention his peer group!
Everybody sing!!!

Everywhere there's lots of piggies,
Living piggy lives.
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives.

Thank you, George. You were SO far ahead of your time!

12. I have learned through the years
That the REAL totals for marches are around 75-85% the total estimated by organizers. This gives us about 150,000-170,000. The London police gave an estimate of 75,000, which is par for the course with cops, and even less surprising, is Fox downgrading the numbers even more to 50,000!

13. I heard
70,000 too on one of those cable news shows, but he prefaced it with ... it was not a great success as only about 70,000 marchers showed up. It was some comment like that.

11. Who cares?
I turned on CNN for a half an hour - something I rarely do.

What do I see in between the advertisements?

Michael Jackson's SUV with a running commentary that could have been summarized on the head of a pin.

I bet *Bush is just thanking his "god" for Michael right now.

14. Don't discount that Karl Rove made a call to the Santa Barbara DA
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 09:07 PM by Gman
and told him he needed to move on Jackson. Something the DA or police said yesterday caught my attention and made me raise my eye brows. Either the DA or the police chief or whoever in the news conference yesterday said something about Michael Jackson's "apologists" which is almost a stock phrase used by the right wing. Sometimes its the little things like the "apologists" remark that gives away something a lot bigger. Sometimes.

The big news ended up being Jackson and took much of the thunder away from the protestors. However, the pulling down of the Bush statue did get live coverage on CNN.

The Jackson diversion is reminiscent of things like a jet airliner crashing in NYC the day the final report on the Florida recounst came out.
