Biden's son runs for Del. attorney general
Biden's son runs for Del. attorney general
13 minutes ago

DOVER, Del. - Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III, son of Delaware's senior U.S. senator, kicked off his campaign for state attorney general Thursday.

Biden pledged not only to prosecute criminals, but also to prevent crimes such as identity theft and Internet stalking of children by sexual predators.

"I truly believe that this office has the potential to greatly improve the lives and well-being of the people of the state of Delaware," said Biden, 37, who served as a federal prosecutor in Philadelphia for five years.

Biden, a Democrat, will face Republican Ferris Wharton, 53, in the November election. Republicans are banking on Wharton's experience of more than 25 years as a prosecutor to offset Biden's name recognition.

1. J. Biden and Wharton, two sides of the coin of corporatism, no?

No matter who wins, your credit card company wins. Is that right?

5. Wharton is the one who told me with TONS of witnesses, that
you don't worry about government at the Federal level. If you take care of local goverment, the Federal level takes care of itself. He told me that in front of about 20 people at the Newark Memorial Day parade when he tried to hand me a sticker and shake my hand and I asked "Republican or Democrat?" He said "Republican, why? Does it matter?" I told him the Republicans are ruining our country. That's when he went into the "That's Washington, at the Federal level...... I told him I was a reformed Repub and voting Democrat. My daughter thought I was great asking that. Hubby, on the other hand, looked like he could have sunk into the storm drain.

8. Well now being that just about everyone in Delaware either...
works for a credit card company or probably is married or living nextdoor to someone who is working for a credit card company, not sure how that is a bad thing. I understand your issue, but instead of being insultive why not actually learn about the state of Delaware and the fact that this businesses are very important to our economy including my very own economy. Plus at least it's not like the old days where our economy was based on chemical companies dumping polluntants.

So perhaps maybe what you perceive is bad isn't really that bad for those of us living in the state.

ANd I'm not sure how this is late-breaking news. I knew he was running about 2-3 months ago and his campaign office is walking distance from my home

11. Oh, OK, so voting to assault working class interests is good because...
your boss is the one assaulting the working class?

Last time I checked, that isn't anywhere close to the notion of "solidarity."

12. Who says they are
oh, right everyone at DU who assumes corporations as a whole are evil.

Go about your business, we're fine here in Delaware

I work for a corpation and I like my job. I'm paid well and have decent security - I guess that makes me the enemy here at DU too

20. Now you're setting up strawmen
To be fair, I went overboard on the hyperbole, but what I am referring to is that atrocious "bankruptcy reform" bill the credit companies lobbied hard for. That bill, frankly, is an assault on the working class at a time when the middle class in America is shrinking.

21. It is shrinking in DE

Because of the layoffs at the merged credit card operations of MBNA and Bank of America.

There is a certain cosmic justice in the MBNA employees here in Delaware having been the cheerleading section for the bankruptcy reform act, and now hundreds of them are losing their jobs. But "working class" in Delaware is synonymous with credit card bank employees. It is the number one industry here.

17. In Delaware....

...people who work for the credit card banks ARE the working class.

It's a really small place here. We have three things - credit cards, chemicals, poultry, and two auto assembly plants (one GM and one Chrysler).

To get IN to Delaware, you have to wait at the border for someone else to leave, because of fire regulations.

Okay, I made that last one up, but...

18. Formally announced....

And I'm not sure how this is late-breaking news.

Because of the official announcement.

On the way in to the Blue Rocks game last night, they had the drive to Judy Johnson field lined with Biden signs.

2. I wish him well, but...
...I must admit that I find it annoying when the children of well-known politicans run for office. It just doesn't seem fair. If this kid's last name weren't "Biden" he'd probably still be paying his dues somewhere.

And, on a totally unrelated note... I grew up in Wilmington, and I went to private school for a few years around the same time when the Biden kids were in another private school. The girls on the bus in junior high used to sing a song based on the "twelve days of christmas" that named all the boys they liked. I think that Hunt and Beau Biden were both on the list. If I remember correctly, "Four Hunt Bidens" was in place of "Five Golden Rings" and "Four Beau Bidens" was in place of "Four Calling Birds."

True story.

4. Yeah, but he did have the sense that it would hurt his campaign
if he took that appointment straight from Gov. Minner when Brady moved on.

9. His campaign office is over at the Riverfront Outlet stores
and I've met him a few times - he is quite the looker. I'm sure he's hoping that Dad's male pattern baldness is skipping a generation

10. Normally, I'd agree with you, but I'm making an exception with Jack Carter
if the apple doesn't fall too far from that tree, Nevada is going to be a lot better off soon.

13. Are you annoyed by Kennedys running for office?
Most of them have a leg up due to their last name. Al Gore is another example of someone who ran for office who had a famous political father.

7. Just like good old Dad
Beau will get his funding from the CC companies. MBNA has been sold, but I'm pretty sure that who ever bought them out will hitch their wagon to Beau. Then the interest rates could go even higher.

16. Would Delaware elect someone who campaigned on getting tough with
the state's biggest industry. Kind of like West Virginia electing someone who wanted to ban coal mining due to how is effects the environment.
