15. Smiling like the Mona Lisa after a lobotomy
I tell you there's nothing like seeing the Chimp smirking next to the Queen as she reads a paean to the "special relationship" to make you realize who runs this world, how poorly, and what fuck-all anyone can do about it.

Yeah, he's about to bust a gut. Imagine his thought process: "Marshall Plan, did she say? ...I'm Marshall Matt Dillon! ...the Marshall Mathers LP... I remember that frathouse whore back at Yale, we called her Marshmallow Bubbies... God, I could use a marshmallow right now. Should I use my special hidden Panic Button to order one? Heh heh, the Secret Service would shit bricks...She's still talking? Jesus, these state dinner outfits sure are tight..."

9. Jon Stewart was right.... Prince Charles is the oldest-looking...
... 55 year-old man of all time.

He also looks like it's nappy-time. And Chimpy could really use an electrical shock system, activated from the sidelines by McClellan, to remind him to wipe that constant shit-eating smirk off his face.

18. The Queen is JUST A FIGUREHEAD...this is not necessarily her opinion
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 04:12 PM by glarius
The speech she gave came from Tony Blair....She has NO power or say in political dicisions....We here in Canada are accustomed to seeing her give these speeches, in support of her current government...It has nothing to do with her personal opinion on any of this...I understand, from things I've read that Prince Charles (and possibly even the queen) is against the Iraq attack....:)
edit---In other words, she's just doing her job....

46. Hmm
She has NO power or say in political dicisions....

You need to read up on the Privy Council and the Royal Assent. :)

Only she can declare war.

Only she can sign laws into effect.

She has the power to dissolve parliament, sack the primeminister and refuse to allow the winner of an election to form a government.

She is the defender of the British Constitution, she is a check and a balance.

The fact that she has never used these powers doesn't mean she will never and certainly doesn't mean she never will.

Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 06:52 PM by glarius
It is acknowledged by all parties that she just acts as a figurehead....It is understood by her that if she ever used the powers you speak about, it would mean the end of royalty.:)

57. Hmm
"It is acknowledged by all parties that she just acts as a figurehead....It is understood by her that if she ever used the powers you speak about, it would mean the end of royalty."

I think the fact that it could spell the end of the monarchy means that it would take a dire situation for her to utilise the powers. That doesn't mean she wouldn't use them.

And I'm pretty sure that she has some input into the issues that come before the commons through the privy council, on which the Primeminister and the Leader of the Loyal Opposition both sit.

Her role has to be seen to be apolitical though, she cannot show her preferences (she has no vote for instance) this was quite in evidence during the Thatcher years when it was known that she detested Thatcher, but could never express it.

I think that the Royal Family get a bad press, sure they have their scandals and they (Phillip) make gaffes or fools of themselves, but the alternative is a President and looking at the US or Europe I don't see a single example of a president any better than what we have now. This is why even as a determined liberal (who believes strongly in renationalisation) I support the Constitutional Monarchy. I also support a wholly elected House of Lords, and a reduction of the numbers of people who recieve money for their Royal status (there most definately are hangers on and spongers).

21. he is such a buffoon
first he reads his short little speech with these huge cards

at the end, he says - "lets all raise our glasses"

then he picks up his glass - he's the only one

"God Save the Queen" starts to play

He quickly puts down his glass and tries to look calm

everyone is looking straight ahead (obviously stifling their laughter)

he starts to bite his cheek

Thankfully Faux has the Michael Jackson thing going on so they can avoid having to comment on this idiot

Embarrassing. But at least he didn't throw up on a dignitary yet, like Poppy in Japan...

they look like a couple of hicks--meanwhile they have more money than you can count. The mass murderer, George Bush, is wearing pantaloons that cost plenty, believe me, and his lump- a- frump is trying to squeeze an aging middle aged body into a dress that was designed for a twenty year old--or better yet, a Barbie doll. And yes, those white gloves--well, it is like Mickey Mouse--

She is a totally subdued and subservient subjugated woman without a soul of her own, getting her "orders" from someone on high that is way above her, she most likely believes--I do not feel sorry for her though--she has latched on to this wealthy family for her own comfort and benefit, and has enjoyed being propelled into this publicity--after all, no one would have paid one bit of attention to her had she not married into the Bush family so inane were her accomplishments up until then, and now, well now, she is quite content to kiss the Bush famnily ass, as long as she can sit lazily by, smoke cigarettes, read cheap novels, and reap the benefits of her married into wealth. To put it bluntly--she is lazy and an opportunist. Why do we , as taxpayers have to put up with financing this woman's happy little trips all over Europe, over and over, when she insists upon dressing as though she is in Disney world and does absolutely nothing on these trips? When she is so dumb and so controlled and all of the trips are merely for propaganda use? Someone should investigate the value of sending this frumplump out to Europe on our behalf. Why am I paying for this frump to look as though the women of America are so stupid and so frumpy?

55. no excuse
Jackie was elegant and was a well bred lady who was gracious and cognisant of all the protocal and indeed had a sense of art and beauty that manifestied itself in her taste in decorating and in her taste in fashion--and as a added bonus, she was also intelligent. :-)

Laura , on the ohter hand, looks like cheap trash and seems to be trying desperately to look as though she is a Jackie-or someone, other than Laura, or smarter than Laura, is trying desperately--

I think, honestly, that Laura is too lazy to try anything and leaves it up to others. The hated Hillary looked and still looks, simply fantastic compared to this pathetic, mannequin of a frump. Laura is squeezing herself into designer clothes that cost a fortune and, unfortuneatley, are absurd and she seems to have no clue as to how she looks--or perhaps, she does have a clue, but must do what she is told and does so willingly in order to get the best for herself and the style to which she is accustomed. She, Laura, looks terrible on this trip. She looks really like a frump. There is no doubt about it--she looks terrible.

wearing that are bulging out around his shoes, are an indication of his "simple" plain man approach? OK--it may very well have been done on purpose--for effect. I would not put it past any of them to do this to their own people. Just dress as though you "rented" everything because well because you do not attent this hoity toity type of affairs often eneough to actually buy formal wear. The guy and his dumaass wife are insane.

68. You're right...
and that walk on him just makes me want to barf..He's disgraceful..and what's worse, those people must think that we are just as disgraceful and stupid because they're still in the WH and nothing's being done..

Another thing..I don't remember the exact wording of his comment about the protestors..something to the effect that they're lucky they're free to protest or something?...I was wondering if he didn't finish what he was really saying..did he mean that the americans aren't free to do what they are because he has his clowns arresting the people, or that he has the goon squad pay "visits" to our homes, or that he makes sure that the americans are kept FAR away so he doesn't have to see what the people really feel??

Also, is he laughing to himself because his goons have already hired and are prepping already what and how to handle the next election, IF there is another "legal" election...I'll never forget his goonsquad banging on the doors in FL...

58. I bet George wishes he had a fancy sash ...
... like the one the Duke of Edinburgh is wearing.

(Sorry, Dubya -- you actually need to have earned an honour, to do that!)
