Gatlin denied world 100m record
Justin Gatlin has been sensationally denied the world 100 metres record he had claimed last Friday in Qatar.

Governing body the International Association of Athletics Federations has revealed that Gatlin ran 9.766 seconds, not 9.7 secs as first thought.

According to IAAF rules, that time should have been manually rounded up to 9.77 secs - matching but not beating Asafa Powell's existing world record.
...
The IAAF said it acted after being informed of the error by Tissot Timing.

2. Are the Times Officially Rounded to Tenths of a Second?
Seems kind of odd if times are routinely kept on the field in hundredths of a second.

4. it's getting to be time to measure the 100
in thousandths of seconds, no one is going to shave off more than one or two hundreths until something really dramatic happens.

10. Perspective is everything
everyone in Jamaica felt Gatlin breaking the Jamaican's record was anti-Jamaican. Truthfully I'm waiting to find out what they're both taking.

8. Hey, I feel cheated!
When I was in high school 35 years ago, I was a pole vaulter on the track team. My all-time height was 11'6" (yeah, yeah, I know...pretty mediocre). Anyway, no one...I mean NO ONE ever suggested it should be rounded off to 12 feet.

NO ONE....
