Gallup: Democrats Maintain Wide Lead In Congressional Vote...(54% to 39%)

Democrats Maintain Wide Lead in Congressional Vote Intentions

Lead Republicans 54% to 39% among registered voters

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup's latest midterm election update shows the Democratic party continuing to hold a strong lead over Republicans among registered voters, according to an April 28-30 USA Today/Gallup poll. For the first time since 1992, a majority of registered voters say that most members of Congress do not deserve re-election. While most registered voters think their own member of Congress deserves re-election, the percentage saying this is the lowest Gallup has measured since 1994. Democrats also report an unusually high level of enthusiasm about voting in a midterm election. Most Americans believe that the Democrats will win control of the House of Representatives after the elections this fall.

The current Democratic advantage is mostly due to strong support among independents for Democratic candidates. Independent registered voters show a decided preference for the Democratic House candidate in their district, 53% to 29%. The Democrats' cause is aided to a lesser extend by their slight advantage in maintaining party loyalty, as 95% of Democratic registered voters and 89% of Republican registered voters are supporting their own party's candidates for Congress.

3. I hold out hope
that Democrats can win both houses. If we do, I hope they don't get muddled down into having a bunch of hearings, and just pass good laws that we can all agree on, and Republicans will vote against and veto. This will make them look bad, and we can take over during this upcoming desperate period. I figure the dystopia will begin during the next term, if not sooner. We will seriously need a democrat in office when the housing boom deflates, baby-boomers peak-spending years decline, and the deficit continues to balloon due to huge tax-cuts for rich people, many of whom don't even think they are sound.

6. We can make laws but * won't sign them. We must have hearings
so that the truth about this administration is on record and so that no other administration can become as dictatorial and as fascist as this one. Then we can win the White House in 2008 and correct all the wrongs that has happened in the previous 8 years.

5. But will people actually boot their reps? Probably not.
The problem in congress is everyone else's rep, not your own.

15. That is actually a good concern
How do we get people in the Republican districts to see that their representative is part of the problem instead of thinking their rep is special? I actually already live in a Democratic district in MO.

7. If it stays in double digits, we take back the house and senate
It's not going to be easy, because of all the gerrymandering and redistricting, but it's more than doable. We're expecting to pick up three seats in Illinois, and with all the retirements, there are a lot more competitive seats out there. People usually reelect their congressmen, of both parties, but this year there's so much anger at congress that a lot of Repukes are just going to stay home.

It's up to us to get the vote out.

9. It's all about a handful of House and Senate races ...
redistricting favors incumbents from both parties so much that only maybe a dozen or so House races are really up for grabs. Polls in those districts would be more revealing than national polls.

8. Is this a set-up?
What is the purpose of these polls are that just gauge whether people are leaning Democratic or Republican in who they want to have control Congress, since they still show that most Americans plan to vote for the incumbent? *Few races seem to be competitive*. Is this a way of setting up Republicans so that after the election, the Moonie Times can say Republicans did far better than was expected from them?

People here should still realize that most Congressional races are not that all competitive. As a result, Krugman wrote that for such polls at these the Democrats have to get up to 80% for Democrats to have a chance of winning back the House and/or Senate.

11. well i sure hope....
that incumbency will protect brad miller's seat in the 13th (here in N.C.), because he'll be going up against the most hateful rightwing black man i've ever heard of; Vernon Robinson. Mr. Robinson is an Ann Coulter/Bill O'Reilly kind of repig. Say the most outlandish thing, and see if the press picks up & runs with it.

I've heard him say that Jesse Helms is one of his all-time heroes. :puke:

14. I'm not counting my chickens yet
and in some way, it's a bit frightening to consider how the GOP and Bush would handle this. They're desperate to hold on to absolute power and that desperation could bring...well, 'nuff said.

16. Read Mark Crispin Miller's "Fooled Again"
The Republicans have instituted a nation-wide regime of Democratic voter suppression, intimidation and theft. The catalogue of transgressions by Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell alone is enough to make your hair stand on end. With 25 to 30% of 2004's votes being cast on DRE (Direct Recording Electronic machines)that no paper trail and an even higher percentage likely in 06', there is simply no way to verify the results of the coming election.

Don't be surprised if we are not subjected to several unexpected Republican "upset" victories.
