THIS is the luxurious prison lifestyle of the Lockerbie bomber—the Libyan jailed for the terrorist killings of 270 people. Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was sentenced to life in 2001 for his horrific attack, which blew up a packed Pan Am airliner over a tiny Scottish town.

But although caged in one of Britain's toughest jails, our exclusive pictures show the 51-year-old monster occupies a suite with facilities to rival a four-star hotel. They include his own kitchen and shower-room, a sitting room, office, and bedroom with en-suite toilet.

His rooms are kitted out with a colour television, video recorder, stereo and personal computer. Prison bosses have even piped Arabic TV station Al-Jazeera—famed as the mouthpiece of terror chief Osama bin Laden—into his cell. Meanwhile, unlike other prisoners forced to barter their precious phonecards, Al Megrahi is allowed unlimited access to the telephone.

The sofa in his day room is big enough to seat three. His coffee table is littered with remote controls for his entertainment system. Fresh food and meat butchered in accordance with his Muslim faith is delivered for him to prepare himself. Other hot meals are delivered to his rooms. Intelligence officer Al Megrahi is also allowed to keep a private collection of videos, books and pictures. Visitors to his ground floor suite have included former South African president Nelson Mandela and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

1. one subtle difference

very few 4 star hotels billet murderers and psycho's in with their customers

there are no "exclusive pictures" here there is a drawing - on the actual report site there are pictures that show a group recreation area - most prisoners are allowed a PC a TV and books not just this man.

I've actually been to Barlinnie - it's NOT a nice place no matter if you have a TV or couch or not

Just because I didn't post the exclusive pictures doesn't mean that there aren't exclusive pictures. The pictures in the link show the murderer at his private computer, in his lounge area, where he has his own entertainment system (I count 3 remotes on his coffee table) and telephone and walking between rooms in his suite. All told, the man has a private shower, a private (separate) bathroom, a private bedroom, a fair-sized lounge, an office and a computer room. He entertains visitors, has a private video and book collection and apparently this murderer of 270 people eats better than most.

Recently, I was visiting a pretty tough prison here in California. That place is too good for this monster. The way he is being treated now is an out and out atrocity.

8. I think he's being treated

a hell of lot harsher than those who approved the bombing of that Iranian civilian airliner - was ANYONE ever charged over that??? And no I don't think one "justified" the other at all but as BOTH were criminal acts of violence p'raps the perpetrators on both sides could be sanctioned

as I said I've been to Barlinnie (and a few other max security jails) and they are NOT hotels they're not even remotely comparable if you think they are I suggest that you've either never been to a hotel or never seen a prison.

We could lock people in filthy dungeons I s'pose but I think most western nations have generally agreed that that doesn't really help anyone anymore.

Finally this story is highly bogus, the "luxuries" afforded to this man are those afforded to most prisoners and the recreation areas shown in the article are communal not for the sole use of Al Megrahi. When basic facts such as these are invented you have to suspect the rest of the piece

as I often don't. The hypocrisy is most interesting to me, however. I believe he received a medal for his "terrorism" afterwards, but that's of course not at all relevant..

I just want to know if he prefers to have women from the west or the middle east brought in to keep him warm at night!

The world we live in is heinous to me today. Absolutely heinous. It has gone beyond surreal.

And this story is EXACTLY the type of crap that makes me KNOW in my heart that the evil bushes and the cheneys and the wolfowitzes and the perles and the rummies.....will all end up doing fine as fine can be. They will NEVER pay for their evil.

I have to beleive in God and Karma ......if only to sleep at night knowing they will get theirs at some point.
