DoD Statement on News Reports of al-Qaida and Iraq ...
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 11:45 PM by Snellius
IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 15, 2003

DoD Statement on News Reports of al-Qaida and Iraq Connections

News reports that the Defense Department recently confirmed new information with respect to contacts between al-Qaida and Iraq in a letter to the Senate Intelligence Committee are inaccurate.

A letter was sent to the Senate Intelligence Committee on October 27, 2003 from Douglas J. Feith, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, in response to follow-up questions from his July 10 testimony. One of the questions posed by the committee asked the Department to provide the reports from the Intelligence Community to which he referred in his testimony before the Committee. These reports dealt with the relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida.

The letter to the committee included a classified annex containing a list and description of the requested reports, so that the Committee could obtain the reports from the relevant members of the Intelligence Community.

The items listed in the classified annex were either raw reports or products of the CIA, the NSA, or, in one case, the DIA. The provision of the classified annex to the Intelligence Committee was cleared by other agencies and done with the permission of the Intelligence Community. The selection of the documents was made by DOD to respond to the Committee’s question. The classified annex was not an analysis of the substantive issue of the relationship between Iraq and al Qaida, and it drew no conclusions.

Individuals who leak or purport to leak classified information are doing serious harm to national security; such activity is deplorable and may be illegal.

1. Bingo! Tell that to the idiots at Faux!
Feith is a well known architect of lies, including Iraq having WMD and the meeting between Atta and an Iraqi agent in Prague. Both stories were debunked long ago!

4. I hope CNN and the Big 3 network news shows will report on
this tomorrow. But they probably will not.

FAUX News knows it can say anything it wants and the "liberal media" will not call them on it. Disgusting :puke:

5. It is pretty bad when the Pentagon has to debunk a RW news story!
This should tell us quite a bit as to how unreliable and fictional the story was to begin with.

What can you expect from people that believed the Iraqis were going to welcome us with singing and dancing in the streets.

7. WHAT is going on? This is bizarre.
Don't Feith and Kristol talk to one another? Is this just more misinformation or is something else going on here?

17. It's quite devious, actually...
... but it works. They get the concept out on the air and sittin' on their websites for a day or so before having to pull it.

9. Just posted this on another board.

Freeper-type response was:

NO WHERE in what you posted does it say those leaked reports were false, only that it was not and analisist or conclusion.

13. My guess is "reports" from the same Chalabi crowd who gave
us WMD's. They were just making up shit and the dolts in our government liked the taste. As someone said earlier, there are something like 2000 "reports" each year on UFO sightings, that doesn't make them true.

16. Now is the time for the other networks to discredit FOX News.
A couple more of these blatant lies and FOX will be a laughingstock among media outlets and even the dittoheads will only regard them as a cartoon show.

Weekly Standard, NY Post, Fox news, yadda yadda. Round and round she goes, where she stops, nobody knows!

The funny thing this time is that it was debunked before Rush could gnaw on it.

19. Now the question is: Who leaked this memo?
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 11:50 PM by Snellius
If memory serves, didn't the Big Stinky Cheese issue strict, double-dare-you orders "No more leaks, ever!!!". So call the plumbers. Someone on the Republican side of the Senate Intelligence Committee -- you know the same one that was going through the wastebaskets of the Democratic side of said committee to send Sean Hannity another secret "memo" -- is leaking classified information. In other words, Republicans on the INTELLIGENCE Committee are not only spying but squealing. Or, to quote the DoD:

"Individuals who leak or purport to leak classified information are doing serious harm to national security; such activity is deplorable and may be illegal."

23. "Who leaked this memo?" ....and why.

Nightline said that Cheney's "National Security Staff" had prepared 3 1/2+ hours of material for Powell to the present to the UN and that Powell vetted it with the CIA and found all of it to be unusable.

I wonder if this isn't just a chunk of that.

24. I just e-mailed
fox news and posed the question..."Will Fox tell the truth?"

To the best of my knowledge they were the only ones to report on this before the DOD press release came out.

I am guessing, but it had to be a Repub who leaked it...

This needs to stay in the spotlight...
