http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=2f6c0dcdfe6b5771Britain's local government workers stranded tens of thousands of motorists Tuesday in a 24-hour strike over pensions.
The work stoppage by more than 1.5 million workers closed hundreds of schools, libraries and leisure centers across the country and disrupted services including garbage collection, street cleaning and court proceedings.
The unionized government workers object to attempts to raise the retirement age. Currently, they may retire if their age and length of work add up to 85. Under some circumstances, that means workers can collect a full pension beginning at age 60.
