Parental consent requirement rejected for emergency contraception (NH)

Young women will not need their parents' permission before getting emergency contraception, the state Senate voted Thursday.

The topic was hotly debated before the bill requiring parental consent failed, 14-10.

"Every young woman in the state should have a right to make a decision that's not abortion or childbirth," Cornish Sen. Peter Burling, a Democrat, said.

"Incest, rape. These are things that happen and young women need a way to deal with that. It's not going to promote promiscuity," Sen. Lou D'Allesandro, D-Manchester, said of the medicine known as the "morning-after pill."

2. I can't believe they would even try for this.
I can't believe that the vote was so close. That is just wrong. What is next? No contraception unless you can prove you are married? I am glad that they decided that women need to have a choice between birth and abortion. It seems like the fundies, the anti-choice people would support emergency contraception.

4. Married? Get with the Bush policy
Unless you CHEAT in marriage you don't NEED contraceptives. You will welcome any and ALL children God gives you. "Abstinence Only Until Marriage and then Faithfulness in Marriage". Where does it talk about contraceptives?
