Iraqis Find 85 Bodies in 24-Hour Period
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Police in the past 24 hours have found the bodies of at least 85 people killed by execution-style shootings — a gruesome wave of apparent sectarian reprisal slayings, officials said Tuesday.

The dead included at least 27 bodies stacked in a mass grave in an eastern Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad.

The bloodshed — the second wave of mass killings in Iraq since bombers destroyed an important Shiite shrine last month — followed weekend attacks in a teeming Shiite slum in which 58 people died and more than 200 were wounded.

Iraq's Interior Ministry announced a ban on driving in the capital to coincide with the first meeting of the new parliament Thursday. The ban takes effect at 8 p.m. Wednesday and lasts until 4 p.m. Thursday.

9. Maybe they're simply promoting public transportation...
...you know, reduce emissions, leave more oil for exports, things like that.

4. Not so sure....
“By their response over the last two weeks, Iraqis have shown the world they want a future of freedom and peace and they will oppose a violent minority.”

8. LOOK! Let's put this into some sort of context and compare to Detroit
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 09:43 AM by underpants
Hold it if 85 bodies were discovered in Detroit in a 24 hour period they would mobilize the National Guard...hold it wait we don't want to go down that road either we don't want to mention that the NG is pretty much deployed...okay on second thought let's talk about some missing hottie okay?

14. But...but... Tom Delay says it's just like Houston !
"You know, if Houston, Texas, was held to the same standard as Iraq is held to, nobody'd go to Houston, because all this reporting coming out of the local press in Houston is violence, murders, robberies, deaths on the highways.

And if you took that as the image of what is a great city that has an incredible quality of life and an incredible economy, it's amazing to me. Go to Iraq. And see what's actually happening there.

Everybody that comes from Iraq is amazed at the difference of what they see on the ground and what they see on the television set."

10. I believe those mass graves were dug during Saddam's
regime. I dont know why the media is not reporting about the school we painted today. Only the Fox Jazeera Channel is reporting all the good freedom happening in Eye-raq.

12. The solution is more freedom based on the American example
Maybe in Iraq's next free election they will pick al Qaeda to run their government. No, that probably won't happen because corporations and the wealthy elite will fix their elections if their freedoms are based on the American example.

On TV this weekend someone was saying these people need to decide if they want to be Sunnis and Shias, or if they want to be Iraqis. Well duh! They want to be Sunnis and Shias, wake up!

15. Someone must have taken Bush seriously
when he told them to "bring it on", and it looks like they are! Hope he's getting what he dreamed of. He must be so proud.
