Dubai wants IT business as well as U.S. ports
Dubai wants IT business as well as U.S. ports --It’s encouraging companies to set up operations in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates, which is currently at the center of a controversy over whether outsourcing the management of six U.S. ports to a company based in the Persian Gulf should be allowed, wants to do more than manage ports: It wants Dubai, its capital, to become a major IT outsourcing destination.

Dubai has been building a modern infrastructure and clearing away all taxes and visa hurdles to encourage companies that set up operations there, said Mehtab Ali Sayed, director of marketing at the Madar Research Group LLC in Dubai. “They are positioning themselves against India,” he said.

Many U.S. IT vendors already have offices in Dubai, mostly to support regional customers. Among them is Sierra Atlantic Inc., a Fremont, Calif.-based provider of offshore IT services, which opened an office in Dubai in August.

1. Bingo
This goes far beyond the terror factor. WHY does Bush want this? OUTSOURCING. Anything that can be outsourced SHOULD be outsourced according to his philosophy. From It to dockworkers to even teachers. Anything to hasten the the greater divide between rich and poor. The WANT to eliminate the Middle Class in America. To create a society of rich business owners versus poor slave wage workers.

3. "In your face"

"We will take 6 of your ports, then proceed to take part in the leverage of your economy by starting with the IT industry and there's nothing you can do about it, because your governement loves it!"

Sad...

8. offshoring
Unfortunately, any job that can't be offshored can be inshored, meaning bringing in legal or illegal immigrants from other countries to take American jobs. Nothing is safe.

7. Probably won't happen if it costs 50% more than India
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 09:40 PM by high density
We all know that outsourcing is about going after the lowest cost with no regard for just about any other factor.

10. If we can't regain control of at least one branch of Congress
it won't be due to a lack of issues. Our candidates should come up with plans to keep jobs in American, to stop importing people to do the jobs Americans now hold, and to keep our ports under U.S. control.

We also have Republican corruption, the war in Iraq, and the lack of affordable health care for millions of Americans. More people are living in poverty than ever before. In almost every article I've read citing declines in such things as the average person's wages, the slide into poverty, the lack of health insurance, all of those which have happened in the last five years. In other words, since Bush stole the presidency.

There are many winning issues for us, we just have to take advantage of them and speak out. We can't afford to remain timid, and we can't afford to be seen as weak. By not standing up to Bushco at every available opportunity, and speaking in unison, we do not look like a party which can stand up to other countries. If we, the opposition party, is too afraid to oppose, how does that reassure people that we will stand up for them?
