Iraq economy falls below pre-war levels

The Bush administration on Thursday conceded that key sectors of the Iraqi economy had fallen below pre-war levels because of the insurgency, but insisted it was making enough progress on the political and security fronts to press ahead with reductions in US forces.

Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, told the Senate budget committee that production of crude oil and electricity was down from three years ago. Attacks had also hit oil exports.

According to latest statistics – which Ms Rice did not mention – crude oil production this month is running at 1.7m barrels a day, down from a post-invasion peak of 2.5m in September 2004 that was close to prewar levels.

Ms Rice initially asserted that “many more Iraqis” were now getting potable water and sewerage services. However, under intense questioning from Kent Conrad, a North Dakota Democrat, she conceded that although “capacity” had increased, fewer Iraqis were actually receiving those services.

8. Economy was better under Saddam than Bush - what a surprise
.
.
.

Not taking into consideration that the country was more stable,

women and children weren't losing life and limbs at a ridiculous rate

And yet too many USA voters figure that this is OK?

Well

The world sees it differently

USA made Iraq WORSE -

and sacrificed thousands of USA citizens in the process

as well as massacring 10's of thousands of innocent Iraqis

and poisoning their country with Depleted Uranium munitions

sick fuckers the USA government is - has been since it's conception

dragging "black" people from other continents to make the PNACers money they were too lazy to make for themselves with honest work

poisoned blankets for the natives of this continent

haven't changed one bit in 300 years - just fancier rhetoric

I still hold the populace that votes down there responsible -

Democracy don't work when the population is stupid or apathetic . .

(sigh)

12. Is this Bush's idea of "making good progress" in Iraq?
In related news, 55% of Americans now say invading Iraq was a mistake.

Up from 51% a month ago.
