NYT: Ohio Board Undoes Stand on Evolution
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 14 — The Ohio Board of Education voted 11 to 4 Tuesday to toss out a mandate that 10th-grade biology classes include critical analysis of evolution and an accompanying model lesson plan, dealing the intelligent design movement its second serious defeat in two months.

The board, which became the first in the nation to single out evolution for special scrutiny under the academic standards it adopted in 2002, stripped the language from the curriculum partly out of fear of a lawsuit in the wake of a December ruling by a federal judge that teaching intelligent design in the Dover, Pa., public schools was unconstitutional.

First he's gotta take out one more Supreme Court Justice
Second he's gotta wipe a whole town in Pennsylvania
Now, he's gotta go after a whole state.

Ohio State Board Votes to Eliminate Disputed Evolution Lesson Plan
By CARRIE SPENCER GHOSE

COLUMBUS, Ohio Feb 15, 2006 (AP)— Disputed teaching material used by Ohio public school students that questions evolutionary theory is headed back to the state committee that wrote the first version.

The Ohio Board of Education voted 11-4 Tuesday to delete a science standard and correlating lesson plan that encourages students to seek evidence for and against evolution. Critics had called the material an opening to teach intelligent design, which holds that life is so complex it must have been created by a higher authority.
(snip)

The 2002 science standards said students should be able to "describe how scientists continue to investigate and critically analyze aspects of evolutionary theory." The standards included a disclaimer that they do not require the teaching of intelligent design.

The board vote represents the latest setback for the intelligent design movement.

9. It is such a relief to see that when it gets down to "cases"
That there is still some kind of brake on the lunacy. If we can just keep the dam from cracking long enough to restore voting integrity........

13. Yes!! Things Evolve, thats a fact
Evolution the theory is taught as such. As it should be, a theory that is based on scientific evidence. There is nothing scientific in intelligent design and has no place in a biology class. BTW I am a Christian, but beliefs are not science.
