British Defense Advisor Found Dead

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/2341897/detail.htmlMissing British Defense Advisor Found Dead

POSTED: 7:51 a.m. EDT July 18, 2003
UPDATED: 8:37 a.m. EDT July 18, 2003

LONDON -- A key British defense adviser has turned up dead. Police searching for David Kelly say they've found his body near his home in central England.

Kelly's family reported him missing Thursday night after he didn't come home from an afternoon walk.

It's been suggested that Kelly may have been the source for a disputed news report on Iraqi arms. The British Broadcasting Corp. report said government aides doctored intelligence on Iraqi weapons to bolster their case for war.

The 59-year-old Kelly had appeared before a parliamentary panel earlier this week to face questions about the BBC report. The government has asked the BBC to say if Kelly was the unidentified official cited in the story -- but the network has refused.

Kelly has said he had spoken to the BBC's defense reporter, but didn't believe he was the source for the story. And he denied making the claims in the report.

Defense officials and British leader Tony Blair's office said they were concerned for Kelly's welfare. A police official called the case "sensitive."

29. It is worse than that
He already wrote one book "Fortunate Son" at which point the Bush Family pointed out he had a felony conviction (30? years ago) and could not be believed. It was pulled from the publisher and finally found a smaller venue to be published. Then he had a second "explosive" book to be published and just before that happened...he committed suicide? I think not.

Just because you are on their side doesn't mean they will not exterminate you.

What was it about?

I'm really worried about Michael Moore -- with his new movie about 911 -- sure hope he's got lots of body guards.

Book about the Boosh ascendency(sp) that pissed off the powers that be.

First they smeared him with past a cocaine conviction, then he accidentally, brutally overdosed himself in a motel room.

9. Actually, Hatfield had tried to kill his boss
And this wasn't a smear. But Hatfield had never denied this crime and, if I'm not mistaken, he did time for it, was contrite about it, and had considered his debt to society paid.

7. He wrote "Fortunate Son"
The book that pointed to Shrub's past cocaine use and crooked business deals in Texas. The original publisher was forced to remove the book from publication. Another publisher picked it up and soon after, Hatfield was found dead in a hotel room.

11. He also said his family was threatened
This is the only link I can find, but I remember reading about this before Hatfield was found dead:

http://www.davidcogswell.com/Essays/DeathHatfield.html

After the drug allegations became public, Hatfield said he received death threats from one of the Bush allies who had confirmed the allegations. The threats named Hatfield's wife and two-month-old daughter and said, "If you value their lives, you'd better back off from this edition."

10. Wrote "Fortunate Son", an expose` of The Shrub...
Interviewed Rove for the book, Rove spilled the beans on the Chimp like a jilted schoolgirl, AWOL, coke use, alchoholism, everything, then when it hit print, Rove denied EVERYTHING, and started a smear campaign on Hatfield like they threatened to do with McClain (insanity, drug use, depression, etc).
What a SWEET way to neutralize your opposition, give them the ugly TRUTH about your guy, then deny it all.

Original publisher knuckled under to RNC threats and not only stopped the presses, but recalled the book. Some outfit called SoftSkull Press picked it up, but the damage had been done.

Hatfield wound up dead, officially a suicide, but still smelled fishy...

13. This was just covered on CNN and it sounds pretty damned shady...
This guy was just before Parliament on Tuesday for a grilling. He apparently was the first to call the British intelligence on WMD "dodgy." A British "analyst" was on CNN and he said that so far, Blair has successfully resisted efforts by Parliament to investigate the "dodginess" of the WMD reports. He says, however, the death of Kelly may very well change the dynamics there.

Well, I say I hate it for the poor man, but if his death blows the lid off this case, then his death will have been most meaningful.

How many say he was "unnoficially offed"?

24. Intimidation
First, Bush "outs" the CIA spy to quiet the WMD whistleblower, now the British "mole" ends up dead.

These people are thugs and criminals.

Oh, and more of the latest (as mentioned in another thread), Cheney's secret energy task force? Mapping Iraqi oil fields and discussing "suitors" for captured Iraqi oil.

If the crux of the criminal corruption in this administration can be described thusly in the three sentences above, why can't the media get their grubby little paws around it?

Clinton's penis, Scott Peterson's neck, or Kobe Bryant's balls (basketballs that is). Real, meaty, down-in-the trenches investigative journalism is just too "icky" for them... especially when it maligns one of their political icon gods, i.e. any member of BFEE.

Unless he was shot in the head with a shotgun, I would think his features should be intact. It's not like he decomposed for weeks..

40. ???
Jacobin,

I've been in the car, on the road, all day and all I've heard is that the body is "consistant with the description of Dr. Kelly". I agree with your statement. Unless the face was totally destroyed, relatives should have been able to make a positive identification. He was only missing since yesterday afternoon so decomposition couldn't have set in..........

This is a very curious and disturbing part of the story.

Any thoughts?//

37. More details from TV report
on Fox News (hey, CNN was in commercial...:7)

Kelly was found wearing a t-shirt and jeans. However, it was raining the day he disappeared. He liked to go for walks in his neighborhood regularly, but you would think he'd have dressed for the weather. The reporter speculated that maybe he didn't intend to come home, or maybe someone else didn't. To me, it sounds like he was pulled out of his home.

I believe I heard the reporter say he was also a microbiologist. If that's the case, it's not unreasonable to lump this in with the other microbiologists mysterious deaths in the U.S. after 9-11. Look for Ruppert/FTW to make that connection. However, considering he just testified last week to a Parliament committee that he spoke to a reporter about British intelligence...that's a more likely motive.

Here's the story on the Fox website:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,92274,00.html

Still no word on cause of death. Anyone?

Body 'matches' Iraq expert

Dr Kelly arriving to give evidence to MPs this week
A body matching the description of Dr David Kelly - the weapons expert at the centre of the Iraq dossier row - has been found at a beauty spot close to his home in Oxfordshire.
The government says an independent judicial inquiry will be held into the circumstances of his death if the body is confirmed to be that of the MoD adviser.

The discovery was made at 0920 BST by a member of the police team searching for Dr Kelly in a wooded area at Harrowdown Hill, near Faringdon.

Dr Kelly, 59, had been caught up in a row between the BBC and the government about the use of intelligence reports in the run-up to the war with Iraq.

43. This is TOO OBVIOUS!
Perhaps it was meant to serve as a warning to others that might come forward about intelligence frauds?

The only other thing I can think of is that Kelly might have been sitting on something incredibly explosive. It is just way too blatant for a run of the mill political assassination.
