Three More U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq

Associated Press Writer

<snip>

On Wednesday, the U.S. military said an Army soldier from the 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment died of wounds suffered three days earlier in a roadside bombing in Anbar province.

A Marine assigned to the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) was killed Monday in a bombing in Anbar, the command said.

Another Marine assigned to the 2d Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), died in a non-hostile vehicle accident Tuesday during combat operations near Qaim on the border with Syria, the military said.

Thousands of police and soldiers have been deployed ahead of Thursday's Ashoura feast, the climax of a month of commemorations by Shiites mourning the 7th century death of a revered Shiite saint, Imam Hussein.

6. just two days ago there was a yahoo headline -Four US troops died
paraphasing, but it was a headline and I do agree--for the most part-dead US troops are embedded in another article about Irag.

2. More heartache for grieving families
This is so tragic, and so senseless. Bush should be impeached, not allowed to send other people to their deaths, in order to fulfill his megalomaniac's vision of being a "war president." As much as I mourn his heartless policies, and the bankrupting of American, they are not as bad as the pain and suffering caused by this needless invasion of another country.

On reflection, however, I can see where his budget slashing in order to give further tax breaks to his rich cronies can also cause misery, and some death. He is an all around disaster. Even the troops who survive will come home to face dwindling Veteran resources, and for the wounded, the suffering will be even worse. What a tragedy the SCOTUS caused for our country, and democracy, by giving this idiot the election.

9. 22 so far this month!
How many does it take for people to take notice?

50 a week? I think that was the average during Vietnam
when people finally got fed-up and took to the streets.

Wonder what the hell is happening in the areas of Iraq
where we do NOT have secure posts.

11. Pile the bodies higher

Grass Bush
Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Carl Sandburg

13. I don't think MSM is reporting these deaths anymore.
The seven soldiers that died earlier this week was a simple one line, after thought. It was overshadowed by Brittney Spears (no lie).

My prayers are with these soldiers and their families. May they find peace. The Republicans DO NOT support the troops.

18. HOW MANY MORE GEORGIE, HOW MANY MORE?

Rich Man's War Lyrics

Jimmy joined the army ‘cause he had no place to go
There ain’t nobody hirin’
‘round here since all the jobs went
down to Mexico
Reckoned that he’d learn himself a trade maybe see the world
Move to the city someday and marry a black haired girl
Somebody somewhere had another plan
Now he’s got a rifle in his hand
Rollin’ into Baghdad wonderin’ how he got this far
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

Bobby had an eagle and a flag tattooed on his arm
Red white and blue to the bone when he landed in Kandahar
Left behind a pretty young wife and a baby girl
A stack of overdue bills and went off to save the world
Been a year now and he’s still there
Chasin’ ghosts in the thin dry air
Meanwhile back at home the finance company took his car
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

When will we ever learn
When will we ever see
We stand up and take our turn
And keep tellin’ ourselves we’re free

Ali was the second son of a second son
Grew up in Gaza throwing bottles and rocks when the tanks would come
Ain’t nothin’ else to do around here just a game children play
Somethin’ ‘bout livin’ in fear all your life makes you hard that way

He answered when he got the call
Wrapped himself in death and praised Allah
A fat man in a new Mercedes drove him to the door
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

Steve Earle

25. Suppose a friend of yours
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 06:25 PM by Dyedinthewoolliberal
was 'gone ' for awhile, meaning under my little scenario, just was unaware of events in Iraq. When the friend reappeared and asked you what was new since they'd been gone and you said, 'the US invaded Iraq in 2003. We lose a few troops everyday, on average."
If they didn't believe you and looked in papers, on TV and radio, they'd say, "you're crazy! there is no mention of this war thing anywhere."
And sadly we'd have to say 'You are right. We are crazy and there is no mention of a war anywhere, but it is still happening.......'
This is a truly disheartening situation.

edited for spelling

26. So three more are dead...
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 08:15 PM by 1620rock
...you know what, I'm about at the point where I say "So What." Today on the radio some female door gunner on a Blackhawk said that Mr. Murtha should just shut up..and "you Mr. Murtha, I would never serve with a coward like you." So if war and death and violence are what these people live for...well go for it. If you fuck with the bull you get the horns.
