Rep. Bernie Sanders collapsed Sunday while attending the funeral of a Vermont National Guardsman killed in Iraq.

Sanders left the service while it was still going on in the gymnasium at Richford High School, then fell to the floor in the lobby. Ambulance crews were attending to him.

There was no immediate word on his condition, or what prompted the collapse.

Sanders was attending the funeral of a National Guardsman who was killed in Iraq late last month.

15. Encouraging news from the article.
"Sanders left the service while it was still going on in the gymnasium at Richford High School, then apparently fell to the floor in the lobby. He lay on the floor outside a restroom for a few minutes before being helped into the restroom. Ambulance crews attended to him for more than half an hour and then he walked to the ambulance unassisted.

"I feel all right," he told reporters as he left the building. "My wife had a flu. I'm fine."

If you hear anything from the local news, please let us know. Thanks for posting this info.

17. Encouraging indeed
There's been a downright NASTY stomach bug going around here. Everyone I know has had it, including me. Hours on the crapper (both ends) then you wake up the next day feeling drained, but otherwise ok. The day after that, you're fine. Very strange.

Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 03:10 PM by ZombieGak
Bernie is truly a treasure and I hope he's OK.

But that's there are so few true Progressives in Congress is a damning indictment of our political system. Bernie is so valuable because he's beat the immense electoral odds other Progressive face.

If we had a true multi-party system... and that's only possible if we have proportional representation... we'd have plenty of other Progressive heroes.

27. Well I already sent him a e-mail hope he feels better:
"I hope you are feeling better Sir. Because America needs you more then you will very know. I just wish there was 200 Bernie Sanders in our Government. How much better our Nation would be. Again I hope you are feeling better. And Thank You for all your work."
What a great man and it is sad that if some-one like him gets sick we all think the worst. Like bush and thugs might have had something to do with it. It really is sad that we can't trus our own Government.

or some other citizen that might get a 10 second-to-10 minute checkover, but for any rep of the gov't, they will receive the ultimate of care, and in this case a good thing. I doubt they left any stone unturned in checking him out.

He represents so many of them already in the House as it is as a very popular congressman for that district. The big question in Vermont is who takes over his spot in the House if and when he becomes Senator. We need someone of his stature to keep the House "in order" too!
