(Bill) Clinton to help Katrina victims claim tax credits
NEW YORK (AP) -- Former President Clinton on Friday announced plans to launch an effort to help victims of Hurricane Katrina find out if they are eligible for the earned income tax credit and claim the refund if they qualify.

Millions of people meet the requirements for the tax credit, which refunds payroll and income taxes to low-wage workers, but do not claim it. Some poor families can be credited as much as $4,400, depending on their earnings and number of eligible children.

"The main idea of EITC is still the old idea of the American Dream, that if you work hard and play by the rules you ought to have a decent life and a chance for your children to have a better one," Clinton said in a statement announcing the project.

The Clinton Foundation initiative also plans to donate $25,000 each to projects by the ACORN Institute and Operation HOPE Inc. that give free tax preparation services and EITC information to people affected by the hurricane.

13. And I'm sure upon hearing this, junior hired a team of advisors
to come up with some scheme to pluck $4,399 of those dollars from their hands as soon as they cash the checks, and then charge them ten dollars for "administrative bookkeeping."

15. Look at this photo of Bill with Katrina victims
Say what you want about him, but Clinton knows how to listen to people. And I do believe that he genuinely cares about people who are hurting. You will never see this look on Bush's face.

17. Imagine a half million a minute going to help those folks
Clinton had us headed on that path. The US Debt was being paid down and scheduled to be paid within a decade. That half million a minute is what we are currently paying on just the Interest on our debt. Basically just throwing it away...A half million a MINUTE....
