Challenge to gay rights bill filed by Eyman
By Andrew Garber
Seattle Times staff reporter

Tim Eyman filed an initiative and a referendum this morning aimed at getting rid of the gay rights bill passed by the Legislature on Friday.

State law bans discrimination based on race, sex, religion, marital status, disability and other categories. The gay rights measure passed by the Legislature adds sexual orientation to that list. Gov. Christine Gregoire plans to sign the Legislation Tuesday.

"Politicians are deciding based on special interest group pressure and their own reelection calculations," Eyman said in a statement emailed to reporters. "The voters have watched this disgusting display of arrogance and selfishness for weeks."

The gay rights measure passed by the Legislature has been around in some form for 29 years. Gregoire today said she'll fight any effort to undo the new law.

"I'm surprised someone would file an initiative to say let's discriminate against our fellow citizens," Gregoire said. "It strikes me as counter to the values of the state of Washington to have an initiative now that would say to the people of the state of Washington it's ok to discriminate... against gays and lesbians."

3. He's already admitted to pocketing donor money for an earlier initiative
I don't know why there weren't any charges for that little bit of home-grown corruption.

11. How about the IRS?
Why wasn't that sumbitch clobbered by the IRS for converting donations to his own income?

13. Oh, please.
There is a huge contingent of liberal dems over here. And, fighting the good fight is much more difficult here than over in Seattle. Don't paint us with such a broad brush.

9. Wouldn't be surprised
I've heard rumors that Eyman's a closet homosexual. Don't know whether they're true or not. I do know, by Eyman's own admission, his kids are adopted.

4. This is his living, and he makes a ton of money
sponsoring initiatives. He is looking for divisive issues that will gain a lot of publicity so he can make more money. He is a liar and a hypocrite.

6. Discrimination may be counter to the values of Washington, but not VA!
Our governor Kaine is likely going to send a highly discriminatory bill to the voters here.

8. Washingtonians hate that Fucker
The idea that he is now involved in this issue secures the eventual success of the Equal RIghts bill. We should be thanking him.

Remember, that fucker sponsored an initiative to repeal a gas tax, when gas prices where higher than ever... and lost!!!

People in Washington hate his fucking guts. We are a Blue State after all, and everyone knows he is a douchebag and anyone with a brain has become bored with his shit.

12. Exactly...
After the Matthew Sheppard murder, the Wyoming governer "cautioned" against passing laws that give one group special rights over another. I guess the ability to keep breathing is a special right when it comes to gay people!?!
I'm so fucking sick of these right wing S.O.B.S. Really, at this point, I'm for carving the country in two, the progressive United Democratic States of America and the Christofascist States of America. I'm tired of reasoning with them. Fuck 'em, let them live with each other.

14. Eyman lives 2 blocks over from me.
Our precinct is about 40-40-10 (Dem-Rep-Ind). ALL our representatives (except city mayor) are Dems! Eyman used to sell watches to drunken frat boys, now he sells snake-oil to power-drunk Republicans! Perhaps this is th issue that will finally see him run out of town. He's a blight on the Mukilteo landscape!

18. He's got a lot of supporters in Mukilteo.
That 40% that's with him is *very* politically active. The other 40% actually have lives.
