Bush Calls Hillary Clinton 'Formidable'
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Friday that Sen. Hillary Clinton, a potential candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, is "formidable," but he declined to speculate on which Republicans might run for the White House in 2008.

"This is an unusual year because this is the first time there hasn't been a kind of natural successor in the party," Bush said in an interview with "CBS Evening News." "Two wide-open primaries with no sitting vice president running in either primary, so this is — I can't remember a time when it's been this open."

He declined to predict whether the United States would still have large numbers of troops in Iraq when his successor takes office in 2009 but discussed the mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners at the Abu Graib prison.

"We were disgraced," he said.

"I don't think a president can ... order torture, for example," Bush said about his presidential powers under the Constitution. "I don't think a president can order the assassination of a leader of another country with which we're not at war."

Is there a disconnect here, or is it just me? /sarcasm off.

8. Yeah, I have to agree
The media are ready to give her attention because of the name recognition, and the Republicans would love to see her be the nominee. It's like the Democratic Party doesn't even have a say in it or something.

12. some pundits say she doesn't have a prayer
I don't think it really matters what the media or opposition has to say on the subject, I wish DU'ers would understand they are merely speculating on it what it all means. The only thing that is clear in the armchair analysis of these opinions is that some DU'ers hate Hillary and don't want her to run.

IMO that will sort itself out. Personally, I don't like assisting the GOP in trashing ANY Democrat regardless of my personal regard for them. And although I won't be voting for Hillary in the primary, she is a hell of a lot better than any Republican that will be on the ballot.

Ralph Nader once said that there is no different between Republicans and Democrats, and that notion IMO is not only not true but ridiculous. There is strength in circling the wagons; the Republicans understand that. I think the negativity toward Hillary here at DU is gratuitous and unfair. She is singled out for her yes vote on the Iraq Resolution when many, many others voted yes and are forgiven. She is voting no on Alito and yes on a filibuster. I've got no complaints in that regard.

13. WTF? "I don't think the president can
order the assassination of a leader of another country WITH WHICH WE'RE NOT AT WAR. Where in the Constitution does it give a president the power to assassinate any foreign leader?

"We were disgraced"?????

He's a disgrace.

"I don't think the president can order the assassination of a leader of another country WITH WHICH WE'RE NOT AT WAR." Where in the Constitution does it give a president the power to assassinate any foreign leader?

In any case, do you think that some people have an obligation to kill politically powerless foreigners and an obligation to refrain from killing politically powerful foreigners?

14. "Formidable"...that's why I've assigned Karl Rove to her smear campaign.

"Did ja know I call him 'The Architect'...it's TRUE! He helped me become president for two terms in a row, and he'll crush Hillary into a fine powder. Even if he has to make up shit, Karl doesn't care. All that matters is winning. And crushing Hillary. Into a fine powder."

24. Learning from Katherine Harris
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 11:40 PM by LiberalGuy000
"Formidable." * must have learned that word from Katherine Harris's interview on Hannity and Colmes. Remember that? lol...

Shrub's brother Jeb supposedly told Harris that she would be a "formidable" Senate candidate. She said this over and over - although she had a little trouble pronouncing the word.
