Legal reforms urged to prevent torture

Vienna — Diplomats and human-rights activists urged the United States and several former Soviet republics on Friday to adopt laws banning courts from considering evidence obtained through torture.

Faced with what participants described as a growing tolerance for such methods following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, Europe's top security body organized a conference to consider how to stop governments from torturing their people.

“Torture is not going to stop until law-enforcement agencies understand ... that convictions won't happen on the basis of coerced testimony,” said Rachel Denber, acting head of the Europe and Central Asia Division of Human Rights Watch.

1. It's an admirable try, but torture is very popular w/ the US voting class

especially torture of Muslims.

2. I honestly think it is racism. I think Muslims have taken the place

of African Americans on the White man's hate list. I grew up in Chicago and I never knew a white person who didn't call blakc person a 'Nigger'. (When you were alone talking with friends.) When I go back decades later to visit old 'friends' many still talk this way. 'Shines, Niggers...'.

I think the White GOP establishment is using this same kind of hatred to label Muslims, 'Sand Niggers' as I hear my friends call them.

I don't have many friends anymore back there. I'm so happy Mom moved us west to Hawaii. Such a nice place where everyone gets along.

3. I always advise people who doubt it, to put on eastern dress and

go to the mall.

Or while you're standing around the water cooler, remark "I saw the funniest movie with my friend Abdullah last night."
