Napolitano vetoes bill on English learning
Napolitano vetoes bill on English learning
Associated Press
January 25, 2006
PHOENIX - One day after she rejected an earlier version, Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano on Wednesday vetoed another Republican bill to revamp programs for instruction of students learning English.

The bill was the latest attempt by the Legislature to retool programs for students learning the English language and avoid costly federal court fines against the state.

Napolitano's veto letter said the bill would not satisfy court orders for improving English Language Learning programs and that Republicans' attempt to cap the state's potential costs for a school-choice tax credit included in the bill was poorly drafted and wouldn't actually do that.

Napolitano also said she would keep the Legislature in special session "until it passes a bill I can allow to go into law."

She's right to veto this bit of Republican grandstanding.

4. GOP is stuffing Corporate Tax Breaks in these bills.
Instead of just focusing on what they've had 13 fucking years to fix, they're trying to ramrod tax cuts and tax breaks for corporations in these bills.

I'm so sick and tired of these righties here in AZ. They're all morons.
