Bush Previews His State of Union Themes
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060121/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_2

WASHINGTON - President Bush previewed three domestic themes of his upcoming State of the Union address — tax cuts, energy prices and the rising cost of health care — in his weekly radio broadcast Saturday.

Bush took partial credit for recent gains in the U.S. economy and urged Congress to make tax cuts permanent, a move that he said would specifically help small businesses because most small businesses pay taxes at individual income tax rates.

"Unfortunately, just as we are seeing how our tax cuts have created jobs and opportunity, some in Washington want to repeal the tax relief," he said. "Others want to just let it expire in a few years."

The tax cuts have strengthened the economy, the president said. "To keep our economy growing and our small-business sector strong, we need to ensure that you keep more of what you earn — so Congress needs to make the tax cuts permanent," he said.

"Doesn't the president know that real wages are actually falling?" Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record), D-Mass., said after Bush spoke on the economy earlier this week. "That minimum wage workers are sinking deeper and deeper into poverty? That saving for college or a home has become an impossible dream for many Americans? That with the cost of energy so high, millions of families can't afford to heat their homes this winter?"

5. So lets sum it up for him shall we..since he can't put two words together
Tax cuts = I and my wealthy friends have ours and if you don't, too fucking bad.

Energy = Democracy is on move in Iraq, Iran is at fault for screwing you at the pump so I'm going to bomb the shit out of them and make me some more money. You know what they say...freedom isn't free and its a lot of work tryin' to police all you libruls out there who just want something for nothing.

Health Care = So as to make room for my social security plan that will cost the baby boomers and their kids trillions of dollars I am introducing my, 'Save An American, Feel Free to Die Off Program' for the poor, kids and the elderly and oh yeah...the middle class, and um...anybody in a union and all the rest of my fellow Americans who don't have a pot to piss in that I could care less about.

9. Walking out a great idea
at the very least most of it should be greeted with hissing; and applause should be withheld. It is way past the time to show any politeness or normal social consideration to this crowd.

12. "...Congress needs to curb abusive asbestos litigation
"pass medical liability reform to reduce the costs of frivolous litigation on our doctors and patients, and penalize those who abuse the legal system by repeatedly filing junk lawsuits."

oooooookay. 'abusive asbestos litigation' ? that is utterly contemptuous of a genuine and long-proven health issue. he's sooooo out of touch.

23. This guy has no shame. Cheney as Halliburton director bought Dresser
Industries,a leading maker of asbestos products, even though they were being besieged by "abusive asbestos litigation."

Smart move,Dick.Acquiring a company with that kind of liability wasn't the best of moves for Halliburton, but Big Time still got his perks and with all the lucrative Iraq contracts Halliburton is again rolling in pork.

Shilling for his buddy in a SOTU address is as crass as it gets. This won't be the first SOTU that he's specifically mentioned asbestos lawsuits,IIRC.Not sure which year it was, but this will be his second pitch for getting his buddy's old firm out of the devastating damages this stuff has caused.

Might have been last year, when he brought up steroid usage in baseball,as if that were a topic worthy of the event.

Bush Previews State of the Union Themes

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 31 minutes ago

WASHINGTON -

How about some organized research on these topics so the dems have the ammunition to strike first?

18. I'm not so sure he'll go there - Rove's got the rest of the GOP on that
one. I think he's strictly working on his poll numbers with this one, and for some damned reason his numbers haven't been hit as hard on the "keeping you safe" rating.

With the OBL tape and the thought that there may be Al-Q here in the US the notion of how much safer we are under him may finally get questioned. Meanwhile Rove has the GOP worked up into a lather over it for the election season. Rove and company will make sure terra stays in the headlines. I don't think the Idgit's going to dwell on it in the SOTU speech. Then again, wtf do I know.

22. junior: Tax cuts, healthcare are priorities
More
Tax cuts and healthcare costs will be prominent topics in President Bush's State of the Union address at the end of the month.

''Doesn't the president know that real wages are actually falling?'' Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said after Bush spoke on the economy last week. ``That minimum wage workers are sinking deeper and deeper into poverty? That saving for college or a home has become an impossible dream for many Americans? That with the cost of energy so high, millions of families can't afford to heat their homes this winter?''

About 39 percent of Americans approve of Bush's handling of the economy while 59 percent disapprove, according to a recent AP-Ipsos poll. That is close to the lowest approval he has had on the economy during his presidency.

junior should step out into the real world and put Rove back into the jar.
