Judge grants request to shut Rx Depot (Cheap Canadian Drugs)
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 07:23 PM by gulliver
TULSA (APOnline) — A federal judge granted the government's request Thursday to shut down a company, operating as Rx Depot and Rx of Canada, which helps customers buy cheaper prescription drugs from Canada.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Claire Eagan is a blow to customers who use the company to purchase less expensive medicines. It also could affect cities and states nationwide that are considering allowing employees to import drugs in order to cut rising prescription costs.

An estimated 1 million to 2 million Americans buy Canadian drugs through the Internet, storefront operations or by crossing the border.

1. This is a BIG sleeper issue. There are a lot of senior citizens who have
depended on these sorts of avenues to help them keep from starving. Watch for a huge input from AARP types over this shit.

2. Bush again
Boy, old Georgie seems to be trying to alienate every group he can. He plans to buy the election or get it surreptiously by machines, I presume.

4. RX
GW is the first president I have ever known who wants to kill off all the ailing and elderly people. If we are gone he can use social security funds to give to Halliburton. Japan may be our only hope. There they revere their elders and take care of them.

5. We have "evolved"
the extended family is no longer in existence here except in some obscure religious sects. Why? because the corporate hold on good paying jobs-the ease of traveling away from the family to make more money and the lack of concern about one's parents and their welfare as they age and get decrepit or even get despicable in the inability to care for themself. Parents should know enough to take care of themselves and should have provided for this and indeed, many I know, myself included, do not want to be a "burden" on our children. This is a cultural attitude. In other cultures it is a priveledge for the children to have the "burden"

6. And remember head of FDA is Scott McClellan's brother
Scott of course is bush's mouthpiece who spins himself into a tizzy because he can't lie with as much finesse as Ari could.

Mark McClellan isn't going to say anything positive to help anyone who is literally dying because they can't afford prescription drugs. These people have no empathy whatsoever. And bush pretends he's in touch with the "common man." Sickening!

8. Canadian drugs in USA
The (In)justice dept. in the case said:

(the chain called Rx Depot & Rx Canada) "... put the public at risk."

Judge Eagan said:

"... the quality of the imported drugs is 'less predictable' than those obtained in the United States."

Ah, yes, that's why Canadians are dropping dead in the streets -- from unsafe drugs.</sarcasm>

The judge in the case said:

"... illegal activity determined by Congress to harm the public interest."

Bullsh*t. It's "harming the public interest" to keep people in this country alive? Yeah, I guess by Geo. W. Hoover's standards.

The judge said:

"... Rx Depot 'openly and notoriously' violated the law."

So, the judge would've preferred it (& maybe not punished them) if they'd been quiet about it? Give me a break.

9. I bet they will convert this into a big push for the Medicare bill now in
conference with no Democrats invited...the bill which includes that drug "benefit" that increases costs to many, eliminates company sponsored plans for another group of retirees...and pour big bucks into the pharmaceutical companies' pockets!

"Compassionate conservatisim"....but only to corporations who donate....
