Heat rises on German spies in Iraq, CIA activities
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060113/pl_nm/security_germany_dc_1

BERLIN (Reuters) - German's security services faced the prospect of a parliamentary inquiry on Friday, triggered by reports that German agents in Baghdad had helped the United States pinpoint bombing targets at the start of the Iraq war.

Despite official denials, the reports have stirred unease in Germany and drawn accusations that the then government of Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was secretly aiding the U.S. war effort, while publicly opposing it to win votes.

The opposition Greens said for the first time they would join liberals and leftists to demand an inquiry, into both the Iraq allegations and wider concerns about the role of the security services in the U.S.-led war on terrorism. The three parties between them have enough votes to force such a probe.

The reports said one agent helped set up a U.S. bombing raid on a Baghdad suburb where Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was thought to be, by driving there and confirming the presence of a convoy of limousines. At least 12 civilians were reported to have died in the raid.

This is a huge issue in Europe today. Smirky just denied to a reporter at his news conference with Merkel that he knew anything about it. He either wasn't briefed, or he is lying (gasp), or he really didn't know - all are possible with this idiot. He did say that Merkel mentioned it to him.

1. Germany - despicable. If true, they were part of the coalition all along.

That makes them equally fascist and imperialistic.

The coalition took many forms.

It appears that we paid for the contribution from Poland.
If we paid for Poland, we probably paid for all the others.
But some European countries appear to have contributed in different ways - torture prisons and target spying and sharing.

I hope this is not true.

Germany - defend yourself,if you can.

Do you see why they need to steal money - it takes a lot of slush funding to operate a secret sub-government out of the range of Congress and the citizens.

2. Yes, I have long thought that this is where the missing money
goes. And why there is no accounting.

3. Kick - this is important, if true. Kick for truth.

4. Iraq should redesign its currency so it doesn't say "In Germany we trust"

5. W would have bombed without German help, no?
Isn't it better to aim at actual targets with pinpoint accuracy than to have another incident like the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade?

6. Must suck to be German right now
At least being British we KNOW what Blair is about and hate it. But while he lied about why he was doing it, we knew he was doing it.
