Liberal group will not back Lieberman
http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/local/state/hc-06153341.apds.m0086.bc-ct--liebnov06,0,5746419.story?coll=hc-headlines-local-wire

WASHINGTON -- A liberal Connecticut Democratic organization, that counts Sen. Joe Lieberman as one of its founders, will once again snub the senator when it makes a presidential endorsement this weekend, the Hartford Courant reported.

The Caucus of Connecticut Democrats, started in the 1960s as an anti-Vietnam war group, hasn't endorsed Lieberman since his first run for the Senate in 1988.

In response to the news, the Lieberman campaign pulled his name out of contention for the endorsement.

"I think we decided not to ask for the endorsement," Lieberman said Thursday. "This is not exactly news because, with all respect, it's a pretty small group and I don't believe they've ever endorsed me in my U.S. Senate campaigns, so I'm not surprised."

2. Any news on who is the favorite?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 03:56 PM by Sean Reynolds
I'm guessing it's either Dean or Kerry.

On edit I just read the article and it answered my question!

:dunce:

The group is not an arm of the state's Democratic party. And a key leader of CCD, Bruce Rubenstein, is backing former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, a staunch anti-war candidate, in the presidential race. CCD members said Dean and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts appear to have support within the group.

5. Can you play the theme from Deliverance?
Is Lieberman a liberal? Sure. He's a liberal on the environment, civil rights, taxes, abortion, gun control. He's a hawk on defense -- but guess what? Most of the great liberals in the Democratic Party -- FDR, Truman, JFK -- have been hawks. I think it has something to do with believing that America has the obligation to confront tyranny around the world.

8. Why Are You Making a Slur Against Southern Whites?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 06:30 PM by David Zephyr
I thought, from your recent, numerous postings, that you were outraged about such and here you are with your "play the theme song from Deliverance" comment. I'll gladly listen to the theme song of Deliverance once you stop playing the theme song of hypocrisy.

7. I'm shocked, shocked!
Not.

I know DU has a policy of not beating up
on the Dem candidates. But surely that
doesn't apply to Holy Joe, 'cause he's a
cloaked Repug.

Gotta share this. I went to see to two talks
recently: Al Franken with Molly Ivins, and
Michael Moore. At both events, the speakers
made a point of saying that it was a decent
Democratic field this time...*except for Lieberman*.

Please, if there's a god, hear me now.
Open a huge hole in the earth and swallow
that varment right up.

9. You know- I don't like Lieberman. Can't stand the guy
but as far as being socially liberal, he's a lot more socially liberal (domestically) than Dean for instance.

Another thing I appreciate about him is that he's the only one up there who's owned up to his hawkish stance on the Middle East. I personally don't think he's any more hawkish than the rest of them (Kucinich and Sharpton only excluded)- he's just been more honest about it.

That said Myra, I hate the guy even more than the rest of them because, to me, he makes a mockery of God's name- the very name he says he honors- but that's a personal thing.

Not beating up on you... It's just always perplexed me that Lieberman became our whipping boy. Is it because we're afraid to examine the others closely enough to find out they're not much different?

10. Lieberman publicly kisses Repuke a*s
and that inflames moderates and liberals, who see Repukes (Republican ideologues) as enemies of our Democracy. Unlike Dean, who wants to reach those in other groups without betraying Democratic values, Lieberman panders to the Repukes and fails to tackle them when they attack us. With Dean, I feel like I have an older brother looking out for me and is willing to knock Repuke heads when the Tom Delays and Trent Lotts attack us. With Lieberman, I feel like I'm being sold into prostitution.

He may have a decent socially liberal voting record, but when it comes to campaigning for it, Lieberman tries to ignore talking about it publicly, like Dean does, unless of course it's infront of a liberal crowd with no TV camera's.

Lieberman also has a voting record that condones exempting stock options for corrupt CEO's from taxes and favored deregulating the accounting industry, which led us to the current crop of corporate scandals.
