Bush slams Arabic TV
George Bush, the US president, has criticised Arabic television for giving a false impression of the United States - but admitted that Americans needed to do a better job of communicating their ideals.

Launching a National Security Language Initiative to boost the teaching of foreign languages, Bush said it was a way to help combat the notion that the United States was bullying in imposing its concept of freedom.

"You can't convince people unless you can talk to them," Bush told a State Department audience.

"You can't figure out America when you're looking on some of these TV stations - you just can't - particularly given the message that they spread," he said. "Arabic TV does not do our country justice."

1. You'd think America's corporeal actions mean more than manufactured images
But what do I know? I used to know a guy who thought Star Trek TNG was real. I wonder whatever happened to him...

2. that's okay. American TV doesn't do these countries any justice
just like it's very unlikely you'll hear much of anything about foreign affairs not related to the U.S. unless it's some natural disaster of Biblical proportions.

Bush can fuck off. right now.

8. Hey, I don't remember those intercepted messages on 9-10. Didn't
Cheney just say the other day that if they'd have been able to "spy" prior to 9-11 they could have prevented it?

From the article posted:

Memories are still fresh of two messages intercepted from suspected members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network on 10 September, 2001, that said, "Tomorrow is zero hour", and "The match begins tomorrow". They were translated on September 11 and only given to policy-makers on 12 September.

9. W doesn't realize what he's turned this country into
Freedom? Freedom to do what? Have the government listen in to your conversations? Freedom to be poor and without insurance regardless how hard you work? Freedom to send your kids to substandard schools because the feds won't return your taxes to local governments?

Freedom to join in with Muslim extremists to strip women of rights over their own bodies.

Freedom to bomb a third world country anytime you feel like it without adequate proof and agreement from other countries?

Are these the freedoms W is talking about?

18. I had the impression
that "American freedoms" were the freedom of the wealthy and well-connected to buy and sell you for the lowest possible price, the freedom to wage useless wars, to deny people of their rights, to suck up to the most vile corporate interests, to lie about everything for the sake of private gain, to manipulate peoples emotions and fool them into acquiescence, to preach about liberty while creating death squads to assassinate "enemies", to sell out the nation for the sake of a few more million in your own private account, to cater to the worst form of sectarian division, to twist patriotism to support totalitarian/imperial yearnings of the rightwing, to sacrifice the children of the poor for the sport of the rich, to addict millions to useless medicines and false ideas about drugs and health...gosh the list of freedoms grows daily with King WorstPresidentEver...I weep for you, the once great nation redux.

26. Yes, what you say is true but at least as in any good democracy
our votes get counted in an open, honest, verifiable form, so I have come to the conclusion this must be the freedom that all those terrorists hate us for. :sarcasm:

23. bwahahahhhhahhaaaaaa
he's doing it again. you know, the part where he accuses others of his own crimes. after all the propaganda he's paid millinons for, he has the gall to accuse them of not doing his country justice?

arab media has, all along, shown the TRUTH about the 'war'. fox and cnn show, from a distance, a big explosion. al jazeera shows the aftermath of the big pretty 'boom'.
