Anti-Terror Funding To Be Distributed According To Threat

The Department of Homeland Security will evaluate new requests for counter-terror money from an $800 million aid program for cities based on threat and risk assessments.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is set to make an announcement Tuesday that money from the Urban Area Security Initiative will now be distributed based on assessments of where terrorists are most likely to strike and to cause the most damage.

The move is in step with what city leaders have been requesting for years. The grants have been criticized in the past for giving more money per capita to sparsely populated states.

On the surface, it seems this decision is a win for the city, but it's not clear what the final tally will be because the overall funding for anti-terrorism efforts is being cut by Congress.

1. Now that the funding has been cut . . .
New York City can have any or all of the dollar Congress will make available! What should we put you down for, Big Apple? Two bits? Sixty-five cents? The whole enchilada?

Meanwhile, Wyoming gets millions from previous budgets because everyone knows that Al Qaeda is just itching to take out the Little America filling stations.

2. Well, I want 200 mil right off the top for San Francisco...
...because we've had a terrorist threat and invitation leveled against us very recently during an Al-Westwood broadcast by one of the administration's biggest ayatollahs, O'Sama bin Billy.

You can send it directly to the mayor...he's currently trying to sponsor health care for all citizens of the city, and I'm sure he'll put it to good use.

3. "...and to cause the most damage"
We know that losing San Francisco or all of Northern California would cause no damage to the current administration. So I guess we will get squat. As we listen to the daily monetary cost of Iraq, $800 million sounds like squat anyway. Companies sold for billions. Employees losing billions in retirement funds. Millions is now just a ho-hum.

4. Sweet Jesus, Bush said Iraq was a huge terror threat before
the invasion...Is it Iran now that Abramoff is going to name Republican congressmen and representatives in the biggest scandal in recent history?

5. Uh Huh, I'll Believe it When I See It
Say one thing, do another. That's the hallmark of these scumbags. NYC is STILL waiting for all of its 9/11 relief money it was promised. Then there's New Orleans...
