Conservatives plan "Justice Sunday 3" to broadcast before Alito hearings

Prominent conservatives plan to broadcast from a Baptist church on the eve of the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

The Jan. 8 program, "Justice Sunday III: Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land," follows two previous gatherings designed to rally support for conservative positions on abortion, gay marriage, prayer in public schools and other issues.

Christian television and radio stations across the country plan to broadcast the event from the Greater Exodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Scheduled speakers include U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R.-Pa., and James Dobson of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based conservative Christian group Focus on the Family.

The earlier events were held during the Senate showdown over judicial filibusters in April and before Chief Justice John Roberts' confirmation hearings in August.

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, spoke at the second event in Nashville, while Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Miss., spoke at the first one in Louisville, Ky. Protesters accused speakers of trying to impose their religious views on the country.

I think we can look at the trend line and anticipate all the (yawn) popular acclaim they'll get out of #3. More people in their Sunday best looking cluelessly and somewhat bored into the cameras, pretending they know what's going on.

Overturning Roe v Wade has 33% support in recent polling, 60% against. Alito has 37% (and falling) support for confirmation, 25-30% against. (Roberts had 49% at confirmation.) Feel the love and joy and enthusiasm for all this Christian Right crap just...flow.
