Concern Grows over Iraqi 'Honor Killings'
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 03:21 PM by ECH1969
Women's rights in Iraq are a subject of growing alarm for activists and some secular groups.

The widely accepted and seldom prosecuted practice of "honor killings" -- in which family members of women who have had extramarital sex have a right to kill her -- is of particular concern.

Listen to this horseshit, her family thinks at the mere thought she might have been raped was more then enough to put her to death.

14. I do think we have to be 'tolerant' of this practice. It is surely a per-
version of the Koran.

3. ridiculous. i saw something a few months ago on a plastic
surgery show (might have been dr. 90210) any way there was this arab woman who was going to be married but she had been raped. apparently no one in her family knew. anyway she went to this plastic surgeon who created a new hymen for her. can you imagine how painful that must have been?

5. Got one right here......

You walk into a public restroom for women in a Chinese city and you are likely to see a sign such as this one: "Artificial virginal hymens for sale: 500-700 RMB. Telephone number: XXXXXXXX." Your first response is, "Hmmm ... that's more expensive than the standard price?"

4. Before Saddam's regime we never heard of "honor Killings"
In Iraq , in fact under Saddam's regime woman had better due (not past due) in Iraq. But now we are hearing this "honor Killing" in Iraq. Countries that have been known for honor killings are Jordan, Egypt, Israel, and many un-holly places that ventured off from 14th century in Europe....Poland, Austria, Germany, and England

10. But Chimpy said, "Every woman in Iraq is better off because the rape rooms
and torture chambers of Saddam Hussein are forever closed. Iraqi women are already using their new political powers to guard against extremism and intolerance in any form, whether it be religious or secular."

Bush said Tuesday that the draft constitution protects women.
