Greens label Parkin report a whitewash

The Australian Greens say a report by the nation's spy watchdog into the deportation of American activist Scott Parkin is a whitewash.

Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security Ian Carnell reviewed the role of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) in the Parkin deportation, finding it acted within the law.

An unclassified version of his report was released by Attorney-General Philip Ruddock but a security sensitive account remains under wraps.

Greens leader Bob Brown said the report raised more questions than it answered.
"The report justifies ASIO's action in instigating the deportation of Mr Parkin but says it can't say why," he said.
"It's totally outrageous that Parkin cannot have the specified reasons for his deportation."
