Two soldiers charged with abusing detainees at Afghan prison

Two American soldiers will face courts-martial on a variety of charges stemming from alleged abuse of prisoners in Afghanistan, officials said Thursday.
Sgt. Kevin D. Myricks and Spc. James R. Hayes will face trial at Bagram Airfield on charges including conspiracy to maltreat, dereliction of duty, maltreatment of detainees and assault consummated by battery, military officials said.
Both Myricks and Hayes are assigned to Company C, 926th Engineer Battalion, out of Huntsville, Ala.
The charges are the result of a July incident in which the two soldiers allegedly punched two detainees in the chest, shoulders and stomach, officials said. The alleged abuse occurred at Forward Operating Base Ripley in Uruzgan provinc
