Ambassador Bolton Catalogues U.N. Problems
Ambassador Bolton Catalogues U.N. Problems

The Associated Press
Tuesday, November 15, 2005; 1:05 AM

WINGATE, N.C. -- United Nations Ambassador John Bolton catalogued the agency's problems Monday, saying Americans want to fix the U.N. or find an alternative to it.

"Being practical, Americans say that either we need to fix the institution or we'll turn to some other mechanism to solve international problems," he said in a speech to several hundred people as part of the Jesse Helms Lecture Series at Wingate University.

One issue that exemplifies the United Nations' problems is that it has become a place where terrorist nations serve on the human rights commission and where even denouncing terrorism is debated, Bolton said.

He noted that a recent session bogged down in discussion over whether national liberation movements should be allowed to engage in terrorism.

2. The biggest problem with the UN
Is that it has become a tool of US policy.

That is fine when US policy is benign, but in the hands of Bolton and this administration it isn't.

3. He is right about some the UN problems
but Americans being so practical have no better alternative than the UN. (No, starting pre-emptive wars is NOT a better alternative.)

Seriously, it's not as simple as this fool makes it sound but, he's not interested in petty detail...

13. Bolton says UN in a time warp, may have to be replaced
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=d20d81f1eff60d84

The United States reportedly may look for a U.N. substitute if that body doesn't improve in problem solving and responding to U.S. needs.

U.N. Ambassador John R. Bolton told The Washington Times that the Bush administration requires nothing less than a revolution of reform at the United Nations.

"That," he said, "would cover everything from Security Council engagement to management changes to a focus on administrative skills in choosing the next secretary-general."

Yes we need a world organization that America can solely be boss!!!

14. Oh, for goodness sake.
Did all the ambassadors and diplomats vanish when this administration came to power? Did we REALLY have to send Yosemite Sam to the UN so that he could say idiotic, provocative things like this?

18. And that's why they fought
to get bolton in there and snuck him in.

If bolton doesn't like it then resign and when the Dems get in we will appoint someone who can work with other people from other countries.

starts throwing his weight around like a bully to really piss off our global neighbors. Has this bunch of goons ever heard the phrase 'diplomacy'?

22. That explains a lot. John Bolton is really Dr. Frank N. Furter!
It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control

I remember doing the Time Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let's do the time warp again...
Let's do the time warp again!

Well I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck and the devil's eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let's do the Time Warp again!

Isn't Bolton the one in the timewarp. He reminds me of Mccarthy with his sociopathic behavior.

25. These people increasingly sound and look like Dr. Strangelove.
In fact, this is comical in a Shakespearian, rather than in Kubrickian, sort of way. This country better wake up good and fast or it'll turn fast into SciFi movies worst scenario. We should be able to see very shortly, hopefully before term, whether there's enough balls and brains left in this nation to realize where it's heading. And to stop the runaway train, maneuvered by a stuttering idiot. Which goes somewhat beyond a change in UN's general secretary.

28. To be fair...
Now, I don't like Bolton either but the major problem with the United Nations is, in fact, the time warp: the Security Council reflects the aftermath of the Second World War not the aftermath of the Cold War.

But I second everyone before in that Bolton has go and be replaced with someone with at least a measure of credibilty and patience.

30. So another person who was appointed over the objections of most people
is unilaterally deciding to change things he doesn't like after he assumes power?

Somebody has to take this guy out, pronto!

How much more damage can these REPUKE CRIMINALS do - the mind boggles!
