Earthquake response a 'disgrace'...
Save the Children has branded the response of international governments to the Asian earthquake a "disgrace".

One month after the earthquake killed an estimated 80,000 people in India and Pakistan, the leading children's charity said the international community should "hang its head in shame".

It praised the generous response of the British public - who have pledged more than £30m to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal - but said governments needed to increase their efforts to prevent thousands of further deaths from cold.

They have so far pledged only $131m (£75m), a quarter of the $550m appealed for by the UN, and $60m of that has still not been delivered...<snip>

1. Pakistan went way out on a limb for Bush after 9-11, so naturally
Bush doesn't really give a damn about their problems. Can't they see he's got problems of his own? His poll numbers are sagging, for Chrissakes, and he can't be seen as giving more aid to Pakistan than to New Orleans.

2. I recall Bangladesh offering millions to the USA after Katrina
...I think at the very least, we ought to give that back.

3. Humanity? You think Shrub gives a rat's ass about them?
Hell, we couldn't even depend on the rat bastard to TAKE CARE OF HIS OWN DURING KATRINA. The Unfeeling President.

4. What's the phrase? Donation Fatigue
Or something like that. It happened right in the middle of the hurricanes, so we were thinking of our own problems.

6. Totally Understandable. If You're Tapped out...
...it doesn't cost anything but time to network with and E-mail friends, social groups, local organizations, local & federal officials et. al.

(But I'd at least donate $10 just to keep "angry girls" from hounding you ;) )

8. I spent my whole annual donation budget on Hurricane Katrina
It's frustrating that you can't help everyone who needs it every time.

9. No one could have expected a year like this...
Right now I'm tapped out too; but I'm doing what I can to get the word out to others & groups who aren't. This helps me with my frustration.

5. URGENT! 3.5 million homeless will freeze to death NOW if insufficient aid
Please, please, please consider donating. There are over 75,000 dead, 65,000 wounded, and pneumonia has already started taking its toll among the children as the temperatures drop in the Himalayas....

Check out the donation thread here:
