'A whole generation of children just died'
Children are scarce in the regions of Pakistan and the Himalayan province of Kashmir leveled by an earthquake and aftershocks.

Las Vegas physician Nauman Jahangir noticed their absence during a five-day humanitarian mission to the devastated areas. The missing children crystallized the profound nature of the natural disaster for the cardiovascular surgeon, who is the father of two sons.

"A whole generation of children just died," said Jahangir, 33.

The Oct. 8 quake struck on a Saturday, which is a school day in Pakistan. The 7.6-magnitude temblor began just before 9 a.m. When the rooftops came tumbling down, the fully occupied schoolhouses in the affected areas turned into tombs.

1. Unimaginable pain for mother and fathers
and grandparents, too. There just isn't anything else to say. I look around my classroom at my children.. and imagine.

I can't even go there.

2. My School District
IS trying to pass a 4th school bond to finish rebuilding our schools. We are in the SF Bay Area and I keep making the point to everyone I deal with that it is so important for the community to pass this bond because of this very senario... I don't think that most of the residence also understand that in a time of a really disastrous quake a new school might be the only thing standing and therefore be more than "just a school" to the community.

The Society of American Civil Engineers gave the infrastructure of the public schools across America a D- ! We could very well see the same thing if something is not done soon...

Vote tomorrow if you live in the lovely Cali land!!!

4. Excellent point
I can't imagine worrying about earthquakes. I think that would just about do me in. You gotta keep the kids safe. They are the future.

3. URGENT! Over 3 Million homeless - freezing temperatures coming!
I cannot say it enough: Time is CRITICAL! Money is needed NOW to reach survivors in the Himalayas before winter sets in! Over 75,000 dead, over 60,000 wounded, and all the tents in the world will not be enough to shelter all the homeless this winter.

PLEASE go to this thread and do what you can! It means life or death.

5. Where are the supposed "Christian" Churches in this one?
Are there no souls to "save" (i.e., destroy) there?
