Democrats Move to Exploit Iraq Missteps

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 24 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Democrats are intensifying efforts to hold
President Bush and his fellow Republicans accountable for missteps in the Iraq war, as they seek to exploit a potential GOP vulnerability heading into Congress' midterm election year.

Outnumbered on Capitol Hill, Democrats are embracing the little power they have in the GOP-controlled House and Senate by using procedural techniques to highlight Iraq troubles and issue blistering critiques of Bush's war policies.

At the same time, increasing numbers of Democrats are calling for the president to start withdrawing U.S. troops by year's end and are laying out their own timetables for pulling out of the war-battered country.

"What the Democrats are saying essentially is, enough is enough. It's time to determine the facts and to hold the president accountable for the miscalculations, misjudgments and misrepresentations," said Steve McMahon, a Democratic consultant........

7. exactly... when was the last time you saw a headline in reverse...that is
GOP exploit Dems.

You never see it. Not because they don't do it everyday, but because of the (true) bias in the so-called 'liberal' media. :eyes:

5. Now We Dems See How Bold and Morally Courageous...
...Our party can be in standing up to a president whose approval rating threatens to dip below Osama bin Laden's.

"What the Democrats are saying essentially is, enough is enough. It's time to determine the facts and to hold the president accountable for the miscalculations, misjudgments and misrepresentations," said Steve McMahon, a Democratic consultant..."

Uh, Steve, that time was back in early 2003, when the Bushies were miscalculating, misjudging, and misrepresenting (see: LYING) their way into their dirty little pet war.

Americans might just be waking up to the true nature of the Bush Administration. Yes, what before was only apparent to a handful of the more perceptive members of the nation's intellectual elite and roughly 90% of the world's population, is beginning to become plain to most Americans: Bush might just not be an aw-shucks paragon of competency and integrity...

What the h*ll has taken the senior party leadership so long? Have they been afraid that standing up to Bush could result in a political backlash, where they could lose control of the Senate to the Republicans, and cede still more seats to them in the House? (Oh, yeah. That already happened.) Well, be cautious guys--push too hard here and you might just lose your near-irrelevancy!

No, the events of the last five years haven't turned me into a obnoxious, jaded, cynical SOB, why? ;)

6. Well said.
I, too, expect little more than opportunism from these Bush collaborators.

The current push is a revamp of Kerry's technocratic blather--he'd fight the war better, get more allies, etc.--and reveals these worms have learned nothing since tragically signing on for the war.

Show me a third party.

How about capitalize on Bush's mistakes? A much better word. Or how about the truth "Dems Hold Bush Accountable for Mistakes in Iraq?"

9. I Like...
"Democrats Cynically Seek Political Gain In Katrina Tragedy and Iraq War Deaths" better.

Oh! Sorry! Really, I'm a true-blue Democrat; writing headlines for the Washington Times is just my day job! ;)

10. They Have to Stop the Fear Words Now
Since most Americans realize if Bush tries to scare us, it will backfire. We know he cannot keep us safe! So attack, attack, attack.

11. Slanting the story this way is how the media dumps on Dems even when
the story's ONLY bad guys are Republicans.
