Three stabbed in park near White House

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Three people were stabbed Tuesday in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, the Secret Service said.

"One individual has been detained," said Eric Zahren, a spokesman for the agency. "There are three apparent stabbing victims."

...

"Three of (the victims) were transported to a local hospital and are being treated with non-life-threatening injuries," Fear told WUSA-TV. He said the area of the attack was closed, but the rest of the park is open.

There was no indication that the acts of violence were related in any way to the White House.

2. aren't there a million cameras/cops there
Why couldn't the suspect be caught instantly? Aren't there a million security cameras there?

Not only that, I was just there last week. And the cops practically outnumbered the normal people. How could someone get away with stabbing three people there?

I've seen hookers waving down cars a block away.

The White House is protected. The people are on their own.

11. I can recall a story of a homeless vet freezing to death outside the WH
during Reagan's years. (Fuzzy on the details though.)

14. more clueless idiots at the WH
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 03:21 PM by SonicPeace
I just remembered something else. So I was there on Friday, the big day. One of the biggest days of the Bush administration. There were very few protesters or Bush supporters around. Basically, it was just the general public milling about. But obviously there was a complete Army of TV newscrews lined up in their usual spot. But there are millions of them. I overheard a few CLUELESS IDOTS ask a cop "what is goign on there today?" these people had no clue about the CIA leak/Fitzpatric investigation. no clue. they knew nothing. i was shocked.

12. In the early 80's, I saw my first ever porn film
a block away from the White House. You could actually see the WH when you walked out. In fact, that theater was where Deep Throat was playing. That's where Felt got the name.

15. thats hilarious yavin
It kinda reminds me of the old Times Square in NYC.

I know crime/homelessness has occured in the park throughout history. HOwever, in this day of post 9/11 security fervor you would think that park would now be in permanent lockdown. I know we would disagree with it but you would think the fascists in power would want it to keep us away and use security as the excuse.

citizens should carry their choice of tools to protect themselves against criminals even when next to the White House.

That's why our platform says, "We will protect Americans' Second Amendment right to own firearms". See Democratic Party Platform 2004.
