CNN: TENET ADMITS NEVER SEEING FINAL DRAFT OF BUSH SPEECH
Source: Tenet admits never seeing final draft of Bush speech
CIA chief testifies for five hours before Senate panel

During five hours of testimony Wednesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, CIA Director George Tenet admitted he never saw the final draft of President Bush's State of the Union address before it was delivered, a source who attended the hearing told CNN.

This source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told CNN White House Correspondent Dana Bash that Tenet said some of his deputies did see the draft of the speech beforehand. Tenet even talked extensively about who the CIA talked to at the National Security Council, the source said.

The source did not provide the names of those Tenet mentioned in the closed hearing.

<snip>

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-West Virginia, the vice chairman of the committee, said: "I think that responsibility has to be taken by a lot more than George Tenet."

"I think we have to face up to that. I think there are others in the administration who knew something about this," Rockefeller said.

I'm starting to really really hope that even if this doesn't nail his ass to the wall, it'll hopefully put the press on the trail of all the other stuff they've missed or glossed over so far. (Or maybe dig up some unknown stuff as well, possibly)

edit: I should specify by "him," I mean bush, not tenet :)

6. Did not see it?
Then how could he take responsibility for the lie?
Unless Tenet saying he was responsible was a lie as well.

7. That's why he's responsible.
He didn't see the final draft, which he should have, and Bush was able to equivocate in the SOTU. Tenet's saying, "It's my fault, because it was my turn to watch him."

8. That's a good way to put it
My question is: Who's responsibility was it to make sure that Tenant got a copy of the speech to preview? My answer-Bush, and whomever he delegated the job to. He's the pResident, it's his job ultimately to make sure every thing is covered.

10. "Who wrote the speech?" It was the Whitehouse, not Tenet
I know that question has been asked here before. Now we need the editorials to ask it.

12. Not only didn't see the final draft
But apparently Tenet didn't even listen to the speech or review the text of the speech until recently, when he stepped up to take responsibility for the errors in it. Why wasn't Tenet in front of every camera and microphone he could find on January 29 to tell us all about Lil George's stretcher? It took him 5½ months to find out what his boss had said on national TV?

Curiouser and curiouser.

13. he already took responsiiblity for the CIA
dropping objections to it being in the SOTU.

Now he has set an example for Condi to do the same for her staffers pushing to keep it in.

By the same argument, * needs to take responsibility for what he said.

14. Sure, I'm an ol' fart
But this is great! Just exactly 30 years ago durring a hot summer, I was glued to the TV. The big show was the live Watergate hearings. It was great to see a tyrant fall then, but this could even be better! TURN UP THE HEAT!!!!
