Taleban burning claims 'harm US'(Rumsfeld Wants Expedited Afghan Inquiry)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4368172.stm

Reports of religious desecration have dented the US' image abroad
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has urged military commanders to speed up their inquiry into claims that their troops burned Taleban corpses.

He said the longer it took to verify the allegations, the more harm it would do to the country's image abroad.

The probe was launched after soldiers were filmed allegedly desecrating two bodies and then taunting locals.

Mr Rumsfeld recalled the anger caused by past claims that Korans were defiled by guards at the Guantanamo Bay prison...

1. Just declare the US military free of guilt like you always do. Done
It's so easy to expedite inquiries when you know thw answer in advance.

4. As usual, he implies it is the "claims" that hurt the U.S., not the acts.
Rumsfeld is an evil, evil man.

5. Exactly, and Rummy and Shrub's killing of 100,000 Iraqis was just
fun and games huh? That wouldn't affect public perception would it?

6. This kind of thing just shows you
that it's become out of control for RumsFailed. RumsFool tries damage control, but it doesn't seem to be working. It would not surprise me if RumsFathead himself ordered the U.S. burn Taliban corpses. Why? As a hard-ass tactic.

Look at all the things that have happened under his watch.

a) The U.S. behaves badly in Iraq, kicking in doors to ordinary villagers, frisk the women, even search babies' cribs to see if there are any bombs. This causes outrage and homicidal anger in the ME.

b) the U.S. defiles the Koran at Gitmo, causing riots and several deaths in Afghanistan. People are upset beyond belief at what we're doing to their religion.

c) the U.S. behaves like lunatics at Abu Ghraib prison. This causes just as much anger and revulsion in the arab world.

Rumsfeld HIMSELF probably ordered all this. It's clear he feels that getting tough is the way to be the Ruler Of The World. Show Em who's boss. Then when it backfires, he has to backpedal and try to fix the damage.

Stupid idiot. Worthless old fool.

7. Simply airdrop "Karen the Image Polisher" into AFG and the problems...
will be solved.

I'm sure she will get along just fine with the locals.

8. My thoughts exactly, put Karen Hughes on it.
She will clear up any misconceptions the locals have. I was heartened to hear she got an earful in Indonesia the other day. Last Tuesday's edition of Frontline made it perfectly clear to me how low Rumsfeld is capable of going.

10. The US Admin only cares about the image abroad ....
perception matters not truth .... that it was wrong and despicable is not the issue. Why? If those images (of burning bodies) remained within the US military absolutely nothing would be done about it, the same goes for Abu Gharaib photos.

11. Expedited = swept under the rug....burried as fast as possible
poof! Gone.

That is what will come of this. Rumsfart will claim the investigation involves issues that could compromise national security, all footage of this will quickly and systematically be confiscated under same claim, and POOF, it is gone.
