Senate Democrat leader says tap US heatoil reserve

By Tom Doggett

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid on Monday urged President Bush to tap the government's emergency stockpile of heating oil to help bring down high heating fuel prices.

<snip>

Under a complicated Energy Department formula, the heating oil reserve could have been tapped last week when wholesale heating oil and crude oil prices were at certain high levels. But the administration said there was no shortage of heating oil and refused to release any supplies from the stockpile.

Reid suggested the White House opposed releasing the heating oil supplies because "oil companies need to make more money this year."

"They will only make $100 billion" this year, he said.

1. The headline writer needs to brush up on his grammar.
It's "democratic," not "democrat." Note that the reporter got it right.

6. Democrat is not an adjective.
:D

Seriously though, I expect better from Reuters. Our army is killing their journalists.

The least they could do is give the opposition some legitimacy by naming them correctly, and not by Republicans' shorthand for them.

4. So why the price gouging if "no shortage of heating oil"? How about
the admin look into that if they won't tap the reserve.

Reid has been doing very well lately putting this misAdministration into 'damned if they do, damned if they don't' situations.
