"Naked Photographer" Released From Jail

Reported by: A.P.
10/15/2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A Columbus man known as the "naked photographer" has been released from jail.

Stephen Linnen is a former lawyer for the Ohio House Republican caucus who ambushed women in the nude and took photos of their shocked expressions.

He was sentenced last year to 18 months in a program that sent him to jail at night but allowed him to work. The program has since closed. On Friday a Franklin County judge decided against sending Linnen to jail for six more months and put him on five years' probation. The judge ordered Linnen not to possess any cameras, video equipment or recording device of any kind.

Two officials monitoring Linnen say he regularly attends counseling and Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings.

2. It seems rather misleading to call him
a photographer. I thought by the subject line, he was the pro photographer that primarily photographs subjects nude in public places-- I love his work.

But this guy, sounds like he has some issues. Shouldn't they call him what he really is?

3. I guess "Flasher" would have been redundant.

14. Yeah, my first thought was that guy who gets a thousand naked people
in one place, and takes pictures of them against massive backdrops, like the Eiffel Tower or the Grand Canyon or Central Park.

GOP PERVERT FLASHER is probably a more apt description of him!!!

4. I remember that - I think. The composite drawing was
hilarious - the guy had aviator shades and a huge grin.

7. What kind of jail program is that?!
You're free to have a normal daytime life, and just have to check into the jail at night to sleep?

Must be nice being a republican criminal.

He sought out women to photograph for shock value. When the shock wore off, he "kicked it up a notch" by trying to grab them.

With no camera equipment, and no punishment or treatment for his predation, what does he do for an encore? Assault? Kidnapping? Murder?

10. We Graduated from Law School Together
Yep, it sure makes me proud.

Steve was basically a jerk, but this still came as a surprise to everyone I know. He was definitely the type who thought everyone was beneath him. His personality would allow him to de-humanize the women.

If he hadn't been a lawyer with some influential Republican friends, he would surely be in prison where he belongs.

12. I can think of at least one piece of "equipment" he needs to lose.
Okay, I slipped into atavistic mode. I'm better than that (usually)

Sorry.

But I believe this man is a rapist in training.

Here's a report from July:

Linnen Convicted In 2004

UPDATED: 10:05 am EDT July 29, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Bar Association is questioning the law license of the man who was called the "naked photographer."

Stephen Linnen is practicing law at a Clintonville office building during the day, while spending his nights at the Jackson Pike work release center as an inmate, NBC 4's Nancy Burton reported.

Linnen was sentenced to 18 months of work release after he was convicted of wearing nothing but sunglasses and a hat when he snapped women's pictures. He was convicted of 53 charges, including public indecency, sexual imposition and aggravated trespass.

The charges were all misdemeanors, and that is why Linnen is allowed to practice law, Burton reported.

They shouldn't turn him out into the world without some kind of treatment. People shouldn't have to indulge him.

15. "Released" from jail? He was only released from spending the nights there!
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 05:12 PM by rocknation
Locking him up at night and taking his camera is certainly not "treatment." And 53 misdemeanors are--well, FIFTY-THREE MISDEMEANORS. With this "vacation" of a sentence, he has been indulged quite enough--does he even realize that he's done something wrong?
