Hackett Still A Contender In Race To Unseat Incumbent

...

That candidate is Paul Hackett, the Iraq veteran and Democrat who nearly won Rob Portman's normally-safe Republican congressional seat.

Hackett is lined up to challenge incumbent Mike DeWine, but finds himself facing a possible challenge from another Democrat, Sherrod Brown.

"My understanding is that he is in the race," Hackett told 9News.

And that has Hackett re-evaluating. He says he really wants to end what he calls the, "DeWine Disaster."

1. They're both behaving well....the party will have an exceptional nominee

either way. I actually like party primaries when they remain civil.

2. While I like S Brown, Hackett is my man because he can draw Rep
votes while Sherrod Brown can not. Remember, Blackwell will still have control of the voting process, unless RON initiatives pass. Also Dewine has not been tied to Ohio + Bu$h scandals like other Rep politicians. We need to pull a landslide to secure a victory. I believe Hackett can pull this off for us!

3. "he may be one of the first to unequivocally call for withdrawing troops"

"Real straightforward," said Hackett. "Ohio voters, comma, Mr. President, comma, the war is over."

"There's been no objective success in the two years that we've been there," said Hackett. "The infrastructure is worse than when we got there. The security situation is worse today than when we got there."

Even with a vote on an Iraqi constitution this weekend, Hackett is critical of what he calls a lack of leadership on Iraq at the highest levels of the Bush administration.

He also levels criticism at leaders of his own party who have failed to demand a troop withdrawal.

4. Except that Hackett campaigned this year against troop withdrawal
He only began to ask for troops to withdraw once he lost the elections.

So, happy to see he has found the truth, but I find that criticisms at ideas he supported a few months ago is not exactly great.
