Gaurdian: Most Iraqis want troops to stay, says poll
The Guardian

A majority of Baghdad residents feel US and British troops should stay in Iraq for at least a year, according to the first attempt at an opinion poll.

The You.Gov poll results were released as news emerged that a ground-to-air missile was fired at a US military plane near Baghdad airport.

The poll said 31% wanted troops to stay "a few years", while 25% said "about a year."

Only 13% said they should leave now, while 20% said they should go "within 12 months".

The survey also found that half thought the US-led coalition was right to invade. ---

1. Who did those polls? Was it someone with an agenda?
They need fresh troops or peacemakers in Iraq. Not the ones who have been there forever.

9. This isn't the first poll so someone is lying. I posted the first

about 2 weeks ago. Anyone who's got search go to it. Same as this poll. It didn't say who took the survey, how it was taken... nothing. The phones don't work in Iraq. What would you say if, surely with a heavily armed American troop escort with tanks..., and even if a man in plain cloths with this group walked up to you and asked you these questions what would you say? Can the media really be that stupid? Why doesn't a Dem. stand up and say this is bullshit!?

Dems. can understand that there are bad people in the world, some need to go to jail, Bush, but when you treat us repeatedly with obvious lying news why should we ever trust you on anything?

3. Of course they want the troops to stay
Otherwise, the country would slide into chaos. That doesn't mean that they're happy the Americans are there. If given a choice of occupation by Americans and British or by the UN or another Arab country, I'm sure they'd choose the latter.

8. For the average Iraqi just trying to get by U.S. troops are
unfortunately the only security there is. Not a great choice but better than the alternative.

7. LOL Funny you should ask. From the article:
You.Gov said there was no certainty that the 798
respondents were a representative sample and
that several interviews were conducted with
gunfire in the background.
